Once more Admiral Arthur had a meeting with his senior staff officers. Although Colonel Theys was patroling the region in command of the USS Ajax it was expected that this Doctor Leka was planning a direct assault on Deep Space 2 if he had the chance. But that chance was getting smaller by the minute. The net of starships around the location of Doctor Leka was closing in on him. In fact some of the Federation starships came that close they could intercept communications from a ship out of phase... Doctor Leka's ship. The location of the other ship receiving Doctor Leka's communication was unknown, but that second ship had to be very close, otherwise communications were not possible.
"... No no no ! We had a deal. I could get this... Therefore I demand... Not the agreement..."
Apparently the receiver of Leka's communications was not very pleased with Leka's services. Even more... He didn't seem to need him anymore... Weapons fired and hit Doctor Leka's ship shutting down the phase generators and most parts of the shields. Doctor Leka suddenly realised his ship was in normal space again. His former employer could not hurt him now except when he would return to normal space as well. But he didn't, of course. There was a large Federation fleet waiting for orders to fire on Doctor Leka's ship, now in visual range. Leka had one more statement. He send it on all frequencies.
"May the Federation kill you Po'nok, very slowly. They won't get me. But they will hunt you down like a pig. Whohahahahaha..."
It was the last thing heard from Doctor Leka. Apparently he had activated the autodestruct system aboard his ship. In a large fireball the ship disappeared. there was only debris left. But although this fight, if you could call it that, was over and there were no more Federation casualties, there was no reason to celebrate. There had to be another ship somewhere out of phase, with a certain Po'nok in command.
When Admiral Arthur heard the news about Doctor Leka and this Po'nok, he put his intelligence officers at work. It didn't take Geert a lot of time to come up with the answers.
"This Po'nok is a Vulcan mad man. even the Vulcans don't like him. He has been a scientist for almost 160 years with ideas which are not accepted by the Vulcan people. Apparently your uncle, Captain Snoeck in command of the Constitution class USS Boston, was responsible for the arrest of Po'nok after which the USS Boston took Po'nok back to Vulcan for a trial. Apparently Po'nok could escape from Vulcan and was not heard from in 70 years. That is in short what this is all about. No other family related matters between Po'nok and your family have been discovered. Sir, I was wondering... Captain Snoeck is retired a long time ago but according my files he is a guide at the Starfleet academy on his old ship which is used as a training center for the cadets. I don't understand sir he must be 112 years old."
"Thank you Geert. I know how old he is. If you have something else, please let me know."
While the intelligence officer left Arthur's office, the Admiral had something to think about. Of course he remembered his uncle. Snoeck was one of the reasons Arthur had joined Starfleet in the first place. The old Captain always had some great stories about space and how he would never trade in his old ship for a new one. He was one of the last Captains who still held on to the Constitution class vessel...
"Red Alert. Battlestations. Launch launch launch."
Arhtur took a quick look at his terminal and sighted. So Po'nok was here to get him. Well, this was a fight which would end really fast. Arhtur didn't show any emotions when he entered the Operations center of Deep Space 2.
"Admiral, shields are at maximum, all weapons are ready to blow your friend Po'nok out of space into oblivion."
"Thank you Lieutenant. And keep in mind that this Po'nok is not a friend of mine, so shoot to kill. Where is our fleet ?"
"USS Ajax, USS Gandhi, USS Reagan, and USS Strike are securing the region and on their way to Po'nok's ship to intercept, and those ships are not going to a tea party."
"Lieutenant, did someone ever told you, you have a way of saying things that would scare an enemy. If we can we will take this Po'nok alive..."
"I don't think so sir. The battle has begun."
It was Po'nok who fired first. The battledrones of the USS Ajax took attack formation and attacked, while the USS Strike and USS Gandhi attacked from the other side, followed by the USS Reagan. The shields of Pon'nok's ship were already collapsing after the first attack. Po'nok's weapons didn't do much damage. Several times, Po'nok was asked to surrender his vessel, but he only replied that snoeck's family had to die. His ship moved towards the Deep Space 2 station followed by the fleet. It was clear po'nok was planning to ram the station and so accomplish his goal, but he didn't realise things had changed the last 70 years and Federation technology had been inproved a lot since he escaped from Vulcan. maybe po'nok was to blind to see that his ship had no capabilities to survive a battle with a space station like Deep Space 2. After several warnings from Deep Space 2 itself, Po'nok kept his collision course. And finally Admiral Arthur had no choice.
"Fire all weapons Lieutenant."
"Firing all weapons sir, aye sir."
A storm of fire and destruction hit Po'nok's ship. Po'nok must have realised his battle was over and that he had not succeeded, but it was unknown... Po'nok was killed that day and even the Vulcans remembered this day afterwards...
The following day Admiral Arthur had a last debriefing with his senior staff. The case had been simple, but could not have been avoided. That was the conclusion. After his officers had left, Arhtur opened a communications channel. A young Ensign appeared on the small viewer. when she saw the Admiral on her end, whe smiled. she was not nervous at all.
"This is the USS Boston, Captain Snoeck in command... Ah Arthur..."
