The Continuing Story of Deep Space 2: Page 80

Headache... Serious headache. Where was that doctor... ? What had happened... ? Oh yes Admiral Arthur remembered... There was a party last evening with... With who... ? He could not remember. It had to do with some ambassador of Risa, or was it Rigel... Third party this week. And he had not been sleeping for four days. He had not even had a drink the last party. He only had to listen to all kind of speeches. Headache...

"Here you are Admiral. This will ease the pain for a while."

"Auw ! Can't you do this a bit more careful ?"

"Nope. Everytime I have the chance to hurt an Admiral I will."

Arthur looked up right in the eyes of his doctor. It was clear that the Admiral did not approve.

"Very funny doc. I am going to stand up now and go to the..."

Where was he going ? He didn't know, but he was not staying in sickbay with this sadistic doctor. That was for sure. Arthur stood up and walked out of sickbay while the doctor looked at him, shaking his head. Maybe he should have taken that job at the Academy. At least doctors were respected there. It was not that he hated the Admiral, but maybe it was just that he could not cure a patient if he really didn't want to be cured. What was he still doing here ? Well somebody had to look after the Admiral... and he was the only one who could deal with the Admiral's moods... Arthur had no idea what the doctor was thinking, but when he walked through the corridor of the huge stpace station he realised he still had a job to do. Deep Space 2 was located at the edge of the Federation. The first stronghold to hold and stop enemies entering Federation space. When he arrived at Deep Space 2 Operations business seemed to be as usual. First Officer Colonel Jan Theys did not leave the command chair when the Admiral came in. Lan Theys was a soldier, who would not leave his post until officially releaved.

"Status report Colonel."

The colonel did not stand up. It did not have anything to do with respect, but it was post. The Colonel was in command. It was the Colonel's shift to complete. He would not leave earlier, or do something else.

"Admiral, there are no unidentified ships in the region at this time. Everything is clear. Stellar Cartography has gotten extra power to use the lateral sensor grid to study one of those rare phenomena, which I cannot understand. Security has checked on the freighter called Lamella, because it was suspected that the Lamella was carrying illegal weapons. The case turned out to be a hoax as nothing out of the ordinary was found. Lieutenant Denver has fallen from the stairs on deck 17 section 4. He twisted his arm but the doctor says he will be fit for duty tomorrow. Lieutenant Carlson will replace him. The USS Strike has returned and has parked into spacedock. Nothing to report there. That's all."

Arthur waved his hand. To much details was good. He wanted to know everything what was happening on his station. Then he walked to his office.

"Thank you Colonel. I will releave you at 14.00."

The door closed behind him.

Aboard of the Colonial Terran starship, Starchild...

Finishing at last his calculations for their return to the Commonwealth -- curious and amused how Karn, Sarah, and Prince Roshi would react to his, Lt. Katz's, and Admiral Straker's version of Earth -- Young Maccs Starchild nevertheless informed both Frances, Lt. Katz, and everyone else aboard him that he was indeed ready to attempt leaving the Eternal Hub.

"Very good, Maccs," Frances Straker acknowledged his message with one of her own -- both she and Elayna Katz finished now their friendly "swordplay", their foils already back in the equipment locker next to the gym on deck S-4.

"Feel free to invite everyone aboard up to the bridge should they so wish. I the meantime I'll take a shower, put on a new uniform, and meet the rest of you there.."

"Very good, Ma'am"
