Lynn Herring and Julie Pinson (Lucy and Eve, PC) introduce the nominees.
For Steve, they show a montage of scenes with Robin, Sonny, and Michael.
Lynn "Wow! Ok....the winner of the hottest male is....Steve Burton!"
Julie "Yeah!" (raises arms)
Voiceover "This is Steve Burton's 5th nomination and 3rd win"
Steve kisses his wife, and walks up to the stage. He's wearing a black t-shirt, a black leather coat, and black jeans. The crowd is screaming.
"Uh....I don't quite know who the thank for the hottest thing. Um....I'd like to thank hair, make-up and wardrobe for making me so hot, and, uh....I'd like to thank the Lord. I'd like to thank Soap Opera Digest, um, Lynn Leahy, ABC, Barbara Brown, Wendy Riche....Angela Shapiro, the cast, the crew, Mark Teschner. Thank you everybody and thank you to all the fans. I love you. Thanks."
Here is Steve's speech and pics from his 1998 speech at the SOD awards, in which he won for Outstanding Younger Lead Actor.
Jackie Zeman and Sarah Brown (Bobbie and Carly, GH) come out to give the award for Outstanding Younger Lead Actor.
Sarah: "This year the nominess for Outstanding Younger Lead Actor have one thing in common. They're all bad boys." (laughter)
Jackie: "And as the great philosopher Mae West once said 'Don't try to reform a man. That's what reform schools are for."
Sarah: "We have some talented nominees who are very good at being bad....and they are....." (camera to Steve in audience)
Announcer: "Jason on General Hospital. The well-dressed mobster, complete with double-breasted suits, pin-stripe suits, and maybe someday a concrete suit. Steve Burton!"
They show a clip of Jason and Robin's breakup scene in the hospital. They then announce the other nominees in the category, Eddie Cibrian of Sunset Beach, and Daniel Markel of As The World Turns. 3 cameras show all three of the guys in the audience waiting to hear the winner. Steve looks cute, sort of looking downward with eyebrows raised.
Jackie: "And the winner is....."(Jackie takes a deep breath)
Sarah and Jackie: "STEVE BURTON!!!"
Steve stands up, puts both hands up on his head, takes a deep breath, shakes his head, and goes up on stage. He gets hugs and kisses from Sarah and Jackie, takes his award and lifts it up into the air.
Steve: "Ahhh...wow.....ahhh....first I'd like to thank God, my mom and dad for making that mistake in a VW Bug in 1969." (waves) "Umm...Soap Opera Digest, my family, my friends, Lynn Leahey, General Hospital, Wendy Riche, the writers, the directors, producers, Mark Techner, Elizabeth Court, Bob Guza, Maurice Benard..." (this name brings screams from the audience)(please note...not sure of the spelling of the following 3 names) "John Holma, Karen Crasnee, Miles Levy....and an inspiration to me-the love of my life Sheree-I love you. Thank you."
CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU STEVE!!!!!
