All Souls
"Gillian can get to you with just a facial expression"
-Lass S.-
On Sunday, April 26, 1998 the episode, "All Souls," aired. This episode is the 17th episode of the fifth season.
I don't think that I have ever cried as much during and "X-Files" episode...or anything for that matter. Well, maybe 'Memento Mori,' but that's a different story. Gillian Anderson's moving performance was truly phenomenial. If she can make me break into tears simply from the saddened, distrought look on her face, when I never cry...that's amazing.
There has been no other actor in all of the entertainment industry who remotely comes close to striking my heart in the way in which she does, and there never will be anyone else. Unfortunately, she hardly gets recognized for these unbelieveable tallents. Hopefully, it will change this year. I can go on and on about that, but I won't. I am not a religious person at all. I have only been to church twice, and that was for weddings. I have never even read any of the Bible. I have to applaud the writers and staff for making such a religous episode understandable to people who know nothing about that form of it. Otherwise, I would have been completely lost. I like the devil horns on the shadow of Aaron Starkey. I have heard several people say that they did not care for them, that it was too much. I, for one, most likely would not have caught on to the fact that he was the devil had they not showed that. Also, what about Mulder lying to his partner? We all saw him go into that adult theater to see "A Decade of Dirty Deliquents." He should have just come out and said that, and not make up that lie that he was "trailing a possible suspect." Yeah right, like Scully doesn't know that he's obsessed with porn! On a sadder note, I love the 'vision' scenes with Emily. They were a nice touch to add some heartbreak into the storyline. I don't know if it is just me, but is anyone else still finding it weird whenever Scully talks of her "daughter," or when Emily calls her Mommy? Especially the final scene with Emily where she says to Scully: "Mommy, let me go. Mommy, please, let me go. Mommy, please." It is still hard for me to believe that she had a daughter.
