The Red and the Black

This episode, "The Red and the Black," was the final portion of a two episode arc which began with "Patient X." Gillian Anderson did a fantastic job in this episode. Her best scenes were when she was in the hospital and when she was undergoing regression hypnosis. It really made me furious to see this episode, with Gillian's phenomenal acting performance, the same night (actually about 10 minutes after) that she had lost the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Leading Actress in a Drama Series to Julianna Margulies. Now, I mean no offense to Ms. Margulies, but she definetly should NOT have won. Sure, she is a good actress on "ER," but that is not a leading role. Gillian especially should have won because this past year was her best by far. She got a chance to show her tremendous acting ability while Scully was battling with her cancer, fighting for her life. Anyway, now I am getting off of the topic. I thought that Scully's regression hyponosis was very creative and suspicious. That was a much better way to present what 'might have' happened to Scully, than to just show the viewers at the time that it was taking place. This way, X-Philes (and Mulder and Scully for that matter) are not sure of what really happened on the bridge. Was what Scully discribed a product of five years of abduction stories from her partner? Or manipulation by Dr. Werber? Or, did it actually occur that way? It was great to see that Mulder and Scully are back to their senses in that she is the skeptic and he is the believer.
