The Red and the Black

"How could 'Patient X' be so bad and confusing, and have it's second part, The Red and The Black, be so damn good?? This has to be one of *the* best episodes centered around the whole aliens-gov't-conspiracy-thing. I loved it. It was so much better than it's first half. (Maybe the almost total absence of Marita was what made it so good... Heh heh. Coma-woman....) OK. Let's start at the beginning. I really loved the letter-teaser-opening part. I figured it had to be from the CSM writing the letter, and I quickly figured out that the letter was either going to Mulder or Spender. This was later shown to be true, as Spender got the same red envelope at the end of the ep. So... Does that mean the CSM finally has a name? Mr. Spender? Or is he an agent? So, if the CSM is Spender's dad, that fits with the fact that Spender's old man split when he was little. Ooh ooh ooohhh!!! (Lass has several revelations.) So that's what Skinner meant when he said that Cassaundra had someone big looking out for her. (Or did he say that Lil' Spender had someone looking out for *him*?) Someone with power. This is really cool!! CC, I take back every nasty thing I ever said about you. (Well, not quite *all* of them...) AND, if the CSM is looking out for Cassaundra, will she show up in that cool cabin in Canada? Did ya'll notice that fact that the tag line was changed?? I look for that every time, ever since it was changed to El 'Aaniigoo 'Ahoot'e in Anasazi. RESIST OR SERVE. So, how many different, altered tag lines have there been? Can someone come up with a list? Why didn't Mulder try and protect Scully when all this implant-lemming-flambe (to quote from Autumn Tysko) stuff start going down? Well, I guess if he didn't believe... He looked so scared that she was gone when he went to the bridge. He was running around looking at the charred bodies, and that one with red hair.... Aww... Gorgeous puppy dog eyes again... When they first said that Scully lived, I thought, "Oh, this is dumb. It's just like a TV show to have everyone die and have the main character somehow excape unharmed. X-Files, I didn't think you'd sink that low." But then I was pleasantly surprised when they explained quite well why Scully and the 50 others survived. The aliens got rid of the Torchers. (That's what I'm gonna be calling 'em.) Skinner looked very concerned for Scully as well. I think that's sweet. I think he's got a little bit of a thing for her. Like that little thing in "Unrequited". But then Agent Spender showed up and ruined the whole bridge-concern moment. I really don't like that guy. He's better as the Mutato. (Better looking, better acting, everything...) Alright!! Do that Happy Dance!! Marita's in a coma!! Yee-ha!! (Hope you brought your cowboy boots.) Uniblonder's got the oil!! Well, it's not too good, 'cause they get rid of it in the end, but at least she's still in a coma, right? Shippy, shippy..... Oh, my God, Mulder loves Scully so much. When he went in to see her and brushed her hair out of her eyes... He's so cute when he's being sweet!! I remember someone once said (or I read somewhere) that the only time Mulder has actually looked at Scully, not hiding anything, showing everything he was feeling and wanted to say in his face, was when he was trying to coax her not to shoot him in Wetwired. But when he came to see her in that hospital he was *looking* at her. I loved that whole scene. Gillian!! Snaps to you!! What a wonderful Confused-Scully scene we got there when she wakes up in the hospital with Mulder at her bedside. "I was there? Doing what?" She looked so confused, and sad. Gillian's facial expressions are fabulous. Why in the world did that other lady get the Golden G? GA is really so much better than her. Ratboy!! ::sigh:: Alex.... I'll leave that one alone, but I just want to say I loved all the scenes he was in (I'll come back to the beating up of Mulder in a minute), and the part with the WMM in the ship was no exception. He's so cute when he's angry, thirsty and wet. LoL I practically went into a coma myself (maybe that's what actually got to Marita. That kissing finally caught up with her and she realized how lucky she was) when Krycek was talking to WMM and he was looking up at him, scowling, and he slowly.... licked..... his..... lips..... OK. They keep saying it. Alien colonists. If the big Kahuna's keep saying there are aliens, how are we supposed to believe otherwise? And how about showing us more of the alien UFO that crashes, just so we know it's really there?? But, again, I love the XF, partly because of the effects they do. Like that cool explosion when the UFO landed. I loved that conversation. If anyone gets a wav of that, PLEASE send it to me!! The one where Scully said that 5 years ago she came and worked with Mulder, and she followed him and his beliefs that she didn't see because of his memories. He really doesn't know how lucky he is to have a Scully in his life to help him out like she does. And I thought there was going to be a fabulous touching moment where Scully would say that if he asked her to stand behind him again, even though she didn't have memories, that she'd trust him and do it. Follow him again. But then she said the opposite, and it didn't matter at all. It made it better. Scully finally said no. I won't follow you. You're on your own. I can't handle this anymore. Dana, you go girl. Again, a fine example of Gillian's amazing acting abilities. When Scully went in to have that regression therapy stuff, I thought it was funny how she and Mulder sat on opposite ends of the couch, as far away from each other as they could get. But I loved the scared and expectant look, which was also kind of angry that Scully gave him just before she conked out.For awhile there Scully looked kinda dumb, writhing and moaning on the couch, with all that, "Oh my God!! They're back!!" But then she got into it, and did really well. I'd love to have been there for that scene when they were filming it. I can't say it enough. Gillian really stole the show this week. Poor thing. Remembering all that stuff about the people being set on fire and stuff. I'm suprised she didn't cry when she came back out of it. I think she would have been affected more than she was. And what was with the Doctor having her feet in his lap?? Umm... OK. Profesional?? Hmmm... They were holding hands, though. But he didn't move closer to her. You could practically see the rift between them after the "I won't follow you" conversation. Shippers, this was the down time for the ep. Scully was so embarrassed that Mulder had been there through all of that. And what was that look he gave her when he got up? Pity? Concern? Disgust? Dissapointment that she would actually say that, or worse, believe it?? I think when they were in Skinner's office she felt like he was making fun of her. Mulder was saying that she was crazy and had told her memory of a dream, nothing real. I think she thought he was discounting her mind. Which, to Scully, is the most important thing she has. I did love the line from Skinner about how extra-terrestrial life seemed like the most plausible explanation right then. Oh, you mean boy, Mulder. "Then put that in your report." And he actually said he didn't believe that his memories about Sam being taken were real. ROTFLMAO!! Oh, my God, I loved that. When Mulder went into his apt. and Krycek was waiting for him. "You're losing it, Mulder. I can beat you with one arm." And how did Mulder's come-back get past the censors at Fox? "Isn't that how you beat yourself?" I guess it can be taken a couple of ways, I just have that kind of a mind... And then there was that great line from Mulder, accompanied by that fabulous smile, "I thought you were serious." He really is set in this dis-belief thing. But I really like Krycek. He's not that bad. He helps himself a lot, but he helps other people too. (I guess those other people can help him, but...) And what was that? I guess all those "Slash" writers at Gossamer got their wish. Krycek kissed Mulder. Hmm. I was more than a little surprised at that. But did you see the look of disgust on Mulder's face when he did that? LoL I thought Mulder would shoot him when he handed over the gun. LoL "What're you thinking about?" "You know. Destiny, fate, how to throw a curve ball." He is so funny....Did anyone else get Nesei-731 and Tunguska-Terma flashbacks when Mulder jumped onto that truck? And when he looked into that grate... I was expecting the alien-human hybrid from the box car. Sigh. They held hands. Scully didn't want to see him hiding his face so she pulled his hand away and held it... So sweet. They made up, I guess, in their own little way. I don't understand. Did Spender get the letter or not? Or did he see who it was from and send it back, not wanting to hear? And is Spender a bad guy?? He's working for his dad? Or is he trying to opose him? Cool. These kind of questions are OK, not like the 'Patient X' ones. We can never give the CSM a first name. It's like trying to attach the name Tina to Mulder's mom. We can't give him a first name. John, George, Fredrick, Beauregard, none of them fit him. (Or, as one of my friends from The Lone Gunmen list suggested, he could be another William... See my link on that.) Ah well. I want to see what other kind of things they can do this season. "That's me. When I was 11.""
