"Writer Vince Gilligan wrote this excellent comedic script while Darin Morgan, who won an Emmy for writing "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose" and who gave us "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'", which is in my opinion the best X-Files script, steps in front of the camera to try his hand at acting. Morgan suceeds wonderfully as Eddie Van Blundht, a man with the ability to morph himself, who is convinced he is unattractive to women. David Duchovny plays a dual part in this episode as he must also play Eddie Van Blundht when he morphs into the likeness of Mulder. Duchovny does a great job of this in one of his best performances on the X-Files. Along with Morgan's acting debut on the X-Files this is also the X-Files' directing debut of Cliff Bole who has directed Star Trek: The Next Generation. Bole does a great job with this very interesting and fun episode. As for the scene where Mulder and Scully almost kiss... it seems like Scully would go for Mulder if he had Blundht's personality. When asked about whether chat types on the net want a relationship between Mulder and Scully in the May 96 issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, he told Rolling Stone's David Wild, 'They do and they don't. They want elements of it without them jumping into the sack. There are these 'relationshipers' who kind of dominate the online chats. I'm a little dismayed because I don't want them to do a show about fuzzy warm Mulder and Scully. Never.'"

"Small Potatoes was a hilarious episode. Vince Gilligan surprised many people with this funny creation. Actually, it seemed like something Darin Morgan would write, but it was Vince Gilligan, once again proving why he is one of the best. Darin Morgan was wonderful in this episode, acting really innocent when really he's a rapist. You almost get to feel sorry for Eddie Van Blundht (the 'h' is silent) before he transforms into Mulder. This was purely David Duchovny at his best. While he was portraying the faux Agent Mulder he was so funny! Duchovny's facial expressions and small gestures made the episode all the more memorable. Well, being a shipper, I really loved this episode. I know that it was the faux Mulder that was about to kiss Scully, but Scully, thinking it was Mulder, didn't back away, and now there is that question: Now that Mulder knows that Scully would have kissed him (assuming that she would have kissed him) will he try anything. Well, I guess time will tell (hint hint, Chris Carter...). The dialoge was excellent, and Mark Snow's marvellous score added to this fun episode. In my opinion, is the funniest episode ever made so far!"

"As funny and as much as we all enjoyed this episode, this is one of the most important episodes dealing with Mulder and Scully's always changing and growing relationship. I don't know if Mulder has figured this out yet, but Scully wants someone that she can talk to and someone that will listen. This is something that Mulder does but, he is always second-guessing her. And when Mulder walked in on Eddie and Scully about to kiss, he was truly shocked and embarrassed and so was Scully, realizing that this was not THE Mulder. I think what Eddie said to Mulder, "You're a loser by choice", was so true. And not to leave out, the very funny scenes. Did anyone catch when Mulder burst in, her knees were bare (she was wearing long pants before)? "F...B...I" "

"I've always loved this episode! It was one of the funny ones with a little twist to it. We see a man capable of shape shifting, which I find could be helpful at numerous times in my life. But, all in all, the end was the best part for me! Eddie posing as Mulder coming on to Scully. Scully, not knowing what to do, just sits there with an astounded expression on her face. The only spoiler was it wasn't the real Mulder. It might be the closest thing we see regarding Mulder and Scully's relationship going farther and beyond then what it is like now. But I'm not so much a huge shipper now b/c i like how their relationship is now. Seeing them kiss would be just great for me but I don't want anything sexual to go on. I guess I'm a fence shipper. That's about all for my opinion on 'Small Potatoes.'"

"I simply love this episode. Not only is it hilarious - "You spelled 'Federal Bureau of Investigation' wrong...Twice." - but it's very shippy if you can think of the Mulder-clone as being the real Mulder leaning in for the kiss. This episode proves that Scully could fall in love with Mulder. I also think that David Duchovny did a superb acting job - he got to play somebody else playing Mulder, and it was a chance to put a lot of personality and humor into his performance. The only part I didn't like was the end, after Mulder-clone was revealed as Eddie Van Blundht, and there was so much tension and awkwardness between the two agents. It's depressing to know how they were so close to, yet so far from, having a relationship. M+S=love"

"I loved this episode, I've been waiting for it forever. I thought it was really funny when the fake Mulder went around as Mulder and poked fun at everything about him. I thought they could have shown a little more morphing though. I loved the sceen were Mulder breaks of the tail of that dead guy, it was so funny. I didn't like the last sceen though, were they showed the janitor, I think they could have finished it better. It has a really great plot, and watching Eddie/Mulder walk around Mulder's apartement was so funny. My favorite part of coarse was watching the look on Scully's face when Mulder was about to kiss her, it was a crosss between disbalieve, and what the heck is he doing. Give her some credit, she was tipsy."

"This wasn't one of the best X-Files in my opinion. Eddie was a pretty pathetic character, not even mysterious. To me this episode was predicable which is unusual for a X-File. The best part was the end when Eddie gives his "you don't have to be a loser" speech to Mulder. Poor Mulder."

"'Small Potatoes' is one of the best shows they have done! Eddie Van Blundht was perfect! The part with him as Mulder, in Mulder's apartment and office, was hilarious. The whole deal with Luke Skywalker was perfect. When Mulder and Scully almost kissed, it was a Shipper's dream come true!"

"I loved this episode for two reasons. I think that it would be cool to have the ability to look like anyone you want to (I'd be Tea Leoni). This was one of the best episode Duchovny has ever done."
-Clare U.-
"This is my absolute favorite episode so far. It has just enough tongue in cheek, plus delves deeper into the romantic/platonic nature of Mulder and Scully's relationship."
-Ka-Rim T.-
"I thought it was pretty good, but there have been enough shapeshifter episodes. I think that the whole idea isn't as cool as when the Alien Bounty Hunter showed up."

"I thought that it was a really good episode. I liked the part when the guy transformed into Mulder and he almost kissed Scully."
