Night At The Movies

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1985) (Paramount)

Synopsis:

Indiana Jones' second adventure begins in Shanghai, where a plane takes him, his driver Short Round ( a ten year old kid), and a singer, Willie, to India, minus the landing.  They come across a villiage which is being destroyed because they have lost a rock with spiritual properties.  It is up to Indy to save the villiage and recover the stones.  An unforgetable dinner is part of the action (mmm.  Chilled Monkey Brains).

Availability:
VHS:  Pan and Scan only

Cast Crew:
Please see Raiders of the Lost Ark
Kate Capshaw                    Willie
        SpaceCamp

Miscellaneous:

This is darker in theme and tone, yet Lucas and Speilberg find ways to include humor, like the afore mentioned dinner.  Willie also provides comic relief as she interacts with the primitive conditions around her.
The name of the club at the first of the film is Club Obi-Wan, a reference to Lucas' Star Wars Trilogy.
Dan Ackroyd has a cameo at the airport (are you the famous American singer . . . "
Followed by Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
The dark tone of this film was one instigator of the PG-13 rating.

MPAA Rating:
PG -- Language, fist-fighting.

My Rating:

I enjoy this movie, but I agree that it is much darker than either Raiders or Last Crusade.  It is fun at times, but not quite as much as the other Indy films.
