Night At The Movies

The Great Muppet Caper (1982 ?) (MGM ?)

Synopsis:
Kermit and the gang get together for their second film, this time heading for London.  Kermit and Fozzie are twin investigative reporters who, along with Gonzo as their photographer, are sent to England to interview Lady Holliday about her stolen necklace.  While there, they check into the Happiness Hotel (where almost all the other Muppets live) and Kermit falls in love with Miss Piggy, who is posing as Lady Holliday.  When Lady Holliday's stolen necklace (sans diamonds) is found in Miss Piggy's coat, Miss Piggy is sent to prison.  The real culprit is Lady Holliday's parasitic leach of a brother, who plans to steal his sister's most valuable gem, the Baseball Diamond.  Will Kermit and the rest of the Muppets clear Piggy's name and catch the theives red handed?  What color are their hands now?

Miscellaneous:
This was the second Muppet film.
The bicycle scene combined traditional puppetry, robitics, and the large group of Muppets are pulled by two large three-wheel bycicles which you can see on the extreme right of the screen at the end of that segment.

MPAA Rating:
     G

My Rating:
One of the things I remember most about the film is the opening shot of the balloon ride which culminates in a song and dance number in the streets of New York.  This film continues the zaniness of the first film by changing genres and continuing the cameos (my favorite is Peter Ustinov as a truck driver).  The story itself is not spectacular, but I enjoy the Muppet humor.
