The Princess Bride (1987) (Fox/MGM-UA)

Synopsis:
Wesley and Buttercup are hopelessly in love, but when news of Wesley's death by the hand of the Dread Pirate Roberts reaches Buttercup, she becomes a recluse.  Five years later, Buttercup is engaged to Prince Humperdink.  When she is kidnapped by "circus performers" and whisked to the enemy of her native country, her kidnappers ship is followed by a mysterious man in black, who turns out to be the Dread Pirate Roberts, the same man who killed Wesley.  Adventure, Romance, Swordplay, and more twists than a switchback road up a mountain, The Princess Bride is fun for the family.

Miscellaneous:
The film is based on William Goldman's book of the same name, which is far better (and funnier) than the film.  Goldman is the author of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (and was the one who thought of that cliff jumping scene).

MPAA Rating:
PG -- Swashbuckling violence

My Rating:
One of the greatest things about this film is the humor.  Goldman and Reiner time it so well.  Plus, if you ever plan on attending BYU, it is imperative that you know at least one line, here you go.  "My name is Inigo Montoya.  You killed my father.  Prepare to die.
