Woohoo! Finally,
after being ordered 4 months ago, I got the brand spanking new
ATI Xpert128 based on ATI's new Rage128 chip. This thing is fast
as hell, 16mb of ram .. remember when computers used to use have
that? (Those of you still using that.. shame on you what the
hell are you doing?) I'll probably do some benchmarks and see
how well it performs. Oh yeah, did I mention I'm the first in
Canada to get this card? (So ATI tells m :P)

Guess what I
got in the mail this morning? Yup, my new ATI Tuner. Set it up
and after a few minutes i was capping again :) Boy did I miss
it.

My TV
Tuner is broken! All i see is a blue screen. That means no new
caps for a while. ATI have agreed to replace the card at no charge.
Here's what they said the problem is:
"
In response to your message regarding a problem with your ATI
TV
Tuner (blue screen only), The problem described here is generally
related to
a failure of the VIDEO CAPTURE chip on the ALL IN WONDER (PRO)
or TV TUNER.
The failure usually appears to occur spontaneously, and is frequently
reported to fail while the VIDEO is being watched.
In reality
the failure is almost always caused by an electrical spike which
is introduced into the Composite Video or S-Video input when
an external
device is being connected. In addition to spikes faulty cables
or faulty
external video devices may also contribute to the problem. Once
the damage
has occurred the failure may occur almost immediately or many
weeks later.
ATI has
improved the protection circuits on the VIDEO inputs to prevent
further problems.
Off course,
if all the video cables are good quality and in good working
condition and reasonable care is taken while connecting the inputs
this
problem should not be encountered."
So I have
to ship my broken card off to them, so I'm without any tv on
my computer for a while. In the meantime I will be recording
whatever shows I want to cap until I get the card replaced.

Hardware
fixed. After reinstalling drivers and checking connections for
hours I decided to simply reinstall Windows 98. And what do you
know, it worked!
2/27/99
Tons of
new caps to be put up soon, but big hardware problems are keeping
me busy. My CD-Rom and Floppy drives are not functioning! The
floppy drive wont read any disks i put in it and the CD-Rom has
completely disappeared from my "My Computer." That
means no input to my computer other than downloads from the internet.
Not good, its getting me very mad.
