Newsies Story

" In 1899 the streets of New York echoed with the voices of Newsies. Peddlin' the news of Joseph Pulitzer, William Randolf Hearst and other giants of the newspaper world. On every corner you saw 'em carryin' the banner, bringin' you the news for a penny a pape. Poor orphans and runaways, the newsies were a ragged army, without a leader, until one day...all that changed..."

Newsies is a story of hope, courage, strength, and above all -- friendship. It all started when newspaper tycoons Joseph Pulitzer & William Randolf Hurst raised the price the newsies had to pay for their papers by 10%. Since the young newsies were barely making ends meet in the first place, Jack "The Cowboy" Kelly (a.k.a. Francis Sullivan) and his gang of Manhattan newsies decided to go on strike. They get all the other newsies and child laborers from around NYC to join their effort. Along with Spot Conlon (leader of the Brooklyn newsies) and newsie rookie David "The Walkin' Mouth" Jacobs, Jack leads the determined and united bunch to victory. In the end, it's one voice that "breaks the will of mighty Bill and Joe."
