ABERRATION

What do you get when you have ill-tempered mutant lizards running amuck in a snowstorm? An "Aberration"! The premise of this movie lies on some misconceptions of evolution. Not to nitpick, but creatures do not radically evolve in a matter of minutes. And how the hell can anything become immune to bullets?! They don't explain how the lizards came to be and instead rely on the audience to believe that "nature finds its way" schtick. The lines are just precious too. Only here do you get a sassy Ann Heche-lookalike telling a research scientist, "Why are you scientist guys so smart?" Later on, an Antonio Banderas clone suddenly shows up and decimates the lizards with the efficency of those mariachi supermen from "Desperado". It's intended to be a more or less serious horror movie but ends up being somewhat campy and unintentionally hilarious. That's partially due to the reasons above and the fact that the makers of this movie have apparently used some plastic lizards from a toy store. The lizards really do look fake, but admittedly it's fun watching people trying to kill fake-looking lizards in a variety of ways. It also gets somewhat gory near the end when the lizards figure out that they can stay warm by burrowing inside human flesh. The bottom line: "Aberration" is a so-so horror film, recommended primarily for those who enjoy B-movies.

** NOTE: The more dots, the higher the rating. A dozen dots mean that the movie is a masterpiece while one or no dots mean you'll have more fun picking your nose with a scalpel. **
