ANCIENT EVIL: SCREAM OF THE MUMMY

"Ancient Evil: Scream of the Mummy" doesn't have just any mummy. No, it has an Aztec mummy, and if you know your schlock, then you would remember these monsters appearing in infamous B-movies like "Robot Monster vs. The Aztec Mummy" and "Rock 'n' Roll Wrestling Women vs. The Aztec Mummy". Those are bad, and this one isn't much better. For one thing, the mummy lumbers so slowly that even someone on crutches could outmaneuver it. Zombies lumber about too, but they're scarier since they appear in numbers and often infect their victims. The mummy here, on the other hand, is all alone and easily avoided, unless you're as non-observant as the characters in this picture. Once it does catch up to someone, it simply slashes the victim a few times and moves on. Also, by casting a nerdy white kid as an Aztec priest, this movie also repeats the "Fever Lake" blunder of casting an Anglo-Saxon sort of guy as a native American, and "Fever Lake" at least put their man in an Indian costume! The "Aztec" here looks anything but tribal. Perhaps worst of all, the movie itself progresses at a rather sluggish pace, and there is no nudity or gore to reward your patience.

The bottom line: "Ancient Evil: Scream of the Mummy" is cursed. If you watch it, your lifespan will be reduced by about 84 minutes.
