This movie is so weak. I can't believe that entertainment would actually stoop this low. April Fools! Ah ha ha! Actually, this one is quite good if treated more as a twisted horror film rather than a mystery. The plot doesn't have very many red herrings to create confusion over who the killer is, and some avid mystery readers would probably sum up the story with just one word: "Duh!" Instead of trying to figure out the identity of the killer, just enjoy the ride of thrills and chills and wonder who is going to survive. Like the title implies, you can expect an awful lot of practical jokes. Some of them are overused gags while others are inventive and add to the fun of watching "April Fool's Day." Not all of the humor comes from the script, however. Judging from the camerawork during certain parts of the movie, the director must have a ribald sense of humor (not necessarily a bad thing). How many phallic references can you spot? Although the acting is far from perfect, the cast is still likable, and they do a fairly nice job exemplifying college kids during the '80's era. While this film is best when seen for the first time, it's still good enough to be seen again occasionally. If you want to see some hijinks as well as '80's-style horror, then this is definitely the one to watch! |

** NOTE: The more dots, the higher the rating. A dozen dots mean that the movie is a masterpiece while one or no dots mean you'll have much more fun burying it in the backyard than actually watching it. ** |
