Also called "Baby Blood", this is one of several killer baby movies, though here the baby is a precocious fetus which forces its mother to murder people and drink their blood. The fetus talks, and Gary Oldman evidently supplies the voice, sounding vaguely like his young Dracula character in "Bram Stoker's Dracula". When you have evil, talking fetuses, you are definitely in for a quirky viewing experience, but there's more to it than just the fetus. There is also an exploding leopard and a cartoonishly abusive boyfriend who smacks the mother almost at random and even shoves her inside a lion cage for good measure! Adding to the outlandish theme is some seedy, Euro-trashy scenery. The ending is an oddball one to say the least, but that should be expected in pictures like this. The bottom line: A rather difficult movie to pin down, "The Evil Within" is recommended only for horror fans in an adventurous, darkly humorous mood. |

OVERALL RATING
** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the higher the rating. 11 or 12 dots points to an essential item in a horror video collection. Even the dung beetles would be repelled by a movie rated with one or no dots. ** |
