THE CHANGELING

"The Changeling" is one of the classiest haunted house movies around. It has a suspenseful and reasonably complex story, a venerable cast which includes George C. Scott, a cold gloomy atmosphere, and a nice piano soundtrack which blends well with this kind of film. The scene with the psychic medium is particularly interesting. Instead of using the usual ouija board sessions, this medium scribbles out what the spirits have to say, and there is a strange silver cone that wobbles back and forth in response to supernatural activity. Of course, the ghosts do quite a few interesting things too, like setting stairways on fire and making a hidden medallion creep out of the ground as though it's some kind of worm. Although the movie is nearly two hours long, it has a lot to it and hardly ever gets boring. Overall, "The Changeling" ranks as an excellent horror movie, recommended especially for those who like haunted house stories.
