CHRISTINE

This movie will probably disappoint those who have read the novel beforehand. While it is true that the book is scarier and offers a deeper character study, the movie version is still quite enjoyable, and the splendid special effects (accompanied by an excellent soundtrack) help suspend disbelief that a car can willfully murder people. A car killing people all by itself can easily translate into a ridiculous movie, but fortunately, the movie is directed well enough to avoid that pitfall. "Christine" benefits from the notions of people personifying and even pampering their cars, as well as cars serving as an image of the owner. Arnie literally changes into a different person once he owns the car. He also becomes very defensive about his car, as it is an extension of himself. If you insult the car, then you insult him at the same time. The scary thing about all this is that it applies to every car owner to some degree, and there is little doubt that Steven King had been fully aware of that fact while writing the novel. All in all, "Christine" is a fairly good movie which wisely shows the intense relationship between a guy named Arnie and his Plymouth Fury.

QUARTER BY QUARTER ANALYSIS OF MOVIE

OVERALL RATING

9 out of 12

** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better. A dozen dots indicates one of the best movies of all time while no dots point to anti-movies. Anti-movies are films so bad that they can annihilate people within in the entertainment industry, sort of like antimatter. **
