"Evil Dead"--is it just another movie about a creeky old house where the resident demons possess their visitors one-by-one? That's the plot, but it also has very imaginative special effects and some truly unforgettable scenes. On top of various surreal phantasms like bleeding electrical outlets, where else can you witness a young woman literally being raped by trees? A scene like that is so wrong that it's funny! A few other dark-humored moments occur here and there throughout the film; however, the primary aim is to spook the audience, and thus most of the movie is relatively serious. "Evil Dead" is certainly more serious than any of its sequels or anything from the Night of the Demons trilogy, but anyone with a macabre sense of humor should still get quite a few laughs out of it. Most of the movies just mentioned are highly recommended, and "Evil Dead" is definitely among the ones to watch! |

OVERALL RATING
** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better the movie. 11 or 12 dots is top-notch entertainment while one or no dots signifies the bottom-notch variety that may be slightly more amusing than watching the timer count down on a microwave. ** |
