A horror movie called "The Fog"? I haven't seen this movie until recently, but for a long time, I've heard of it and assumed it must be about some kind of horribly toxic fog, sort of like the London Killer Fogs which snuffed over 4,000 people in 1952. However, my assumption is wrong, and it's actually about a supernatural fog surrounding angry spirits. As is typical of John Carpenter movies, the soundtrack is excellent, and the direction is stylish. The cast, which includes Jamie Lee Curtis and Adrienne Barbeau, is well above-average for the horror genre. The story is competently-written and contains a fairly interesting mystery, but unfortunately, as far as the horror aspect goes, this one is a bit underwhelming. Aside from causing windows to suddenly break and disguising themselves as a rather unusual fog, the spirits are nothing special and give the movie a sort of "been there, done that" feel. The bottom line: "The Fog" is not bad, but it is disappointing considering the talent involved. |
