FRIDAY THE 13th PART V: A NEW BEGINNING

"Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning" is a big misnomer. There is nothing new here, except maybe for a mental institution completely defying common sense when they let one of their craziest patients use an axe without any kind of supervision! Otherwise, it's more of the same with amorous couples getting murdered by that hockey-masked, homicidal maniac Jason. Some moments are laughably stupid, such as Tommy trying to reason with Jason and that Randy Quaid-ish redneck going around and around in a circle on his motorcycle. Another silly yet somewhat amusing part is a curvaceous blond girl crawling about ten yards in the rain to get away from Jason. The twisted ending tries to make the movie a mystery as well as a horror film but to no avail. Overall, this movie is an excerise in mediocrity, but apparently, it's not mediocre enough to discourage four five more sequels.
