"Kolobos", it means self-mutilation, which, to an extent, describes the viewing experience. It has such a long, perplexing aftermath that it feels like you're watching a movie and about a quarter of its sequel. The deformed, red-headed villain who pops out of a TV set is not really explained, but that might be because he does not really exist. Confused yet? Well...this movie will do that to you. To add to the misery are a band of obnoxious characters who command no pity when they're killed off in sequence. Among the most grating of these victims is an annoyingly hip girl who serves pee at a fast food restaurant, but fortunately, she's the first one to go. Despite its glaring flaws, the movie isn't entirely bad. It has an interesting premise of putting the characters in a TV show like Real TV and Big Brother, though it doesn't really go anywhere with it. Linnea Quigley fans will only get to cherish her 10-second appearance where she's only there to hug the protagonist good-bye. While the idea of a house being boobytrapped with Star Wars lasers and flying buzzsaw blades is pretty nutty, the death scenes are gory enough to satisfy the more bloodthirsty horror fans. Even so, "Kolobos" amounts to about an hour and a half of confusing mediocrity. |

OVERALL RATING
** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the higher the rating. 11 or 12 dots points to an essential item in a horror video collection. Even the dung beetles would be repelled by a movie rated with one or no dots. ** |
