Say what you will about the strong religious overtones and the rather over-the-top plot, "The Omen" has many things going for it. For one thing, it benefits from an excellent cast. David Warner, as usual, makes the movie more interesting, and Gregory Peck is very convincing as a political figure (Peck is seemingly always playing lawyers and politicians, I have to wonder if he would ever actually try being one. Who knows? Especially when an actor like Ronald Reagan managed to become president for eight years!) The other thing that sets this horror film apart from the rest of the genre is how it ultilizes anticipation. This movie relentlessly builds suspense with scenes like Damien puttering around on his tricycle while mom stands precariously close to the edge of the stairway. Some interesting deaths occur throughout the movie too, from window panes decapitating people to mysterious impalings. It doesn't exactly have a happy ending either, which is still rather distinctive as Hollywood insists on producing feel-good endings. Overall, a good, influential movie for any serious horror movie fan. |

** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better the movie is. 12 dots is an extremely positive rating. No dots is also a positive rating, that is, POSITIVELY HORRIBLE... ** |
