PLEDGE NIGHT

"Pledge Night" is a horror film about hazing, though you get to see a lot more hazing than actual horror. Some of the hazings are pretty amusing and disgusting since the pledges are ordered to swallow worms, Limburger cheese shakes, fake turds, and cherries that have been in places where the sun doesn't shine. The pledges also have to endure paddlings, brandings, and a number of other humiliating events. The result of all this is a good gross-out comedy, at least until the last third of the movie when a hazing victim from another fraternity goes on a killing spree. Interestingly enough, this victim is played by Joey Belladonna, the former vocalist from the metal band Anthrax! Unfortunately, he only gets about fifteen seconds of screen time before his character is played by someone else. The deaths are generally inventive (one of them involves a frat boy's butt being blown up by a cherry bomb!), but it all leads to an awful ending (details intentionally withheld). The bottom line: "Pledge Night" excels at gross-outs but falls apart once it tries to be a horror movie.

QUARTER BY QUARTER ANALYSIS OF MOVIE

OVERALL RATING

6 out of 12

** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better the movie. 11 or 12 dots is top-notch entertainment while one or no dots signifies the bottom-notch variety that may be slightly more amusing than watching the needles move on the gas meter. **
