"Psycho Cop 2"--not to be confused with "Maniac Cop 2"--is clearly one of those horror movies that should not be taken seriously. The acting is pretty bad all around, yet it adds to the whole B-movie experience. The overacting from the guy who plays the ninny is absolutely hysterical! His violent spasms and exaggerated expressions are hilarious, and they nearly outstage the homicidial cop and the T&A display from the strippers. The cop, incidentally, must deliver more quips per minute than any other horror villain, and, yes, even Freddy Krueger would bow to this maniacal man's knowledge of one-liners. Most of his murders, however, are standard fare and have been seen in other horror movies; nevertheless, this is the first film I've seen where a stripper gets thrown ten stories down into a dumpster (and to add insult to injury, the crazy cop calls her trash). Even the soundtrack is completely offbeat and complements the campy lunacy of this flick. The opening music--actually, some sirens and rather funny screaming over some guitar riffs--should reveal the darkly comedic intentions of "Psycho Cop 2" firsthand. The bottom line: This one is recommended only for those who enjoy humorous horror flicks such as "Night of the Demons 2", "The Toxic Avenger", and the later Nightmare on Elm Street movies. |
