PUMPKINHEAD

"Pumpkinhead" is a rather misleading title as the monster resembles the alien from "Alien" much more than a pumpkinheaded scarecrow. Essentially, this is a revenge movie, but it has a sinister, Corsican Brothers-like twist: the monster suffers only when injuries are inflicted upon the vengeful person who has released it. Interestingly enough, this movie has the rare feature of a child getting killed. In films, children seem to be blessed with a low mortality rate whereas teenagers and young adults are always getting murdered. Some more things distinguishing this movie are the visuals and directing from special-effects wizard Stan Winston. However, what really makes the movie is the strong acting from Lance Henriksen. With his performance, the movie is both stylish and captivating; otherwise, it would be mostly stylish. Overall, "Pumpkinhead" is a well-made revenge movie within the horror genre.

** NOTE: The more dots, the higher the rating. A dozen dots mean that the movie is a masterpiece while one or no dots means that the movie is about as much fun as kissing a cactus. **
