Judging from the title, you might think "Saturday the 14th" is a parody of "Friday the 13th", but you would only be half-right. The truth is that it has nothing to do with Jason Voorhees or anything else from the Friday the 13th series. However, it is a parody of various other horror films such as "Creature from the Black Lagoon", "Dracula", and "Little Shop of Horrors". I liked this movie when I was a kid, but it all seems rather inept to me now. Considering that it only has a PG-rating, it might have been intended for a largely prepubescent audience anyway. Admittedly, Richard Benjamin does a pretty good performance as the clueless father, and the movie does have sort of a campy quality to it; nevertheless, it neither seems satirical nor scary, but cheesy enough to worry the folks who make Velveeta (especially during the silly climax where a couple vampires are making noises of barn animals, heavy machinery and whatnot as some sort of psychological warfare). Overall, it ranks as a mediocre horror comedy geared toward those between 7 and 11 years of age. |

** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better. 11 or 12 dots is a choice film while one or no dots point to a sort of cheese that can't be eaten (in other words, a horribly inept movie).** |
