A 100-year old mutant serial killer who eats human livers (sans the fava beans), rivals Gumby when it comes to stretching, and hibernates for 30 years inside a nest made of newspaper strips?! Leave it to the folks of X-Files to push a potentially ridiculous idea and make a class act out of it. By the way, this review is not on a movie as it turns out that "X-Files: Squeeze/Tooms" is really a re-release of two episodes from the TV series. However, this item is horrific enough to be mentioned (besides, I'm hard-up for horror films that start with X). The mutant killer (named Tooms) is actually pretty scary, partially because he is so quiet and methodical. There are some creepy stalking scenes where you can only see his sinister yellow-green eyes. Some of the forensics shown in "Squeeze/Tooms" are pretty fascinating too, particularly the radar device used to detect a skeleton underneath a concrete floor. Most important of all, the writers have done a commendable job with the script, and, wonder of wonders, there is even a "Ba-ba-booey" reference (anyone who has listened to the Howard Stern show should notice it right away). The bottom line: "X-Files: Squeeze/Tooms" is a consistently interesting sci-fi/horror gem. |

OVERALL RATING
** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better the movie. 11 or 12 dots is top-notch entertainment while one or no dots signifies the bottom-notch variety that may be slightly more amusing than watching the needles move on the gas meter. ** |
