TEACHING MRS. TINGLE

Kevin Williamson has a penchant for stories where adults are either evil or clueless and teenagers are the innocent victims. It's that way in "Disturbing Behavior", and it's that way in "The Faculty". Not surprisingly, "Teaching Mrs. Tingle" follows suit, though it's almost tempting to side with the mean teacher played masterfully by Helen Mirren. Aside from an impromptu rendition of the possession scene from "The Exorcist" by Marisa Coughlan and Molly Ringwald's amusing tirade against Napoleon, it is Mirren who carries the movie. Unfortunately, she doesn't get very much to work with, and although "Teaching Mrs. Tingle" is categorized as a comedy/horror film, it comes across as neither. Most of the "horror" derives from Mirren giving the students a hard time and from an accident involving a crossbow, but beyond that, there isn't much to satisfy horror fans.

The bottom line: Skip it. Although it's not a terrible movie, "Teaching Mrs. Tingle" hardly qualifies as horror.

QUARTER BY QUARTER ANALYSIS OF MOVIE

OVERALL RATING

6 out of 12

** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better the movie. 12 dots on the domino is the best rating while no dots means it would only take up valuable space in the dumpster. **
