Octopi are great predators: they're smart; they can change color, and they're venomous. Theoretically, they would make an excellent monster for a horror movie, but the problem with aquatic monster movies is that they tend to follow the same plot as "Jaws" and will invariably be compared unfavorably to it. "Tentacles" is no exception, and it's the Italian brand of schlock, which means the movie is stylish but silly and somewhat inaccessible. Despite having well-known actors like John Huston, Shelley Winters, Henry Fonda, and Bo Hopkins, the acting is amazingly atrocious, and it's only aggrevated by a silly script and out-of-sync dubbing. Nevertheless, it's mildly amusing to see the characters overact or underact to otherworldly proportions, and toward the end, some killer whales get to hear a speech (as though they're being briefed on a military mission) before they're sent out to destroy the odious octopus which has been dragging people to a watery grave with its octet of fake-looking tentacles. The bottom line: "Tentacles" is tolerable if you want to see something campy and a bit off-kilter, but others are clearly advised not to watch this movie. |

** NOTE: The more dots on the domino, the better the movie. 12 dots on the domino is the best rating while no dots means it would only take up valuable space in the dumpster. ** |
