Here's something...a killer baby movie that almost doesn't even have the killer baby! That has to be at least on the cusp of disappointment, if not deeply in it. While the script and acting are okay overall, the insidious infant gets no more than two minutes of screen time! The baby is born about 75 minutes into the movie (after surviving an abortion and a trip to the dumpster, no less). Meanwhile, only a few, isolated scenes keep it from becoming a cinematic tranquilizer. The horribly long needle used to pierce the navel is good for a cringe, and the deadly catfight between comedienne Kathy Griffin's character and her lesbian lover is amusing enough. I also like how the talk host is acting sugary-sweet on-camera and monsterously mean off-camera, but aside from the aforementioned scenes, this 84 minutes feels almost as long as a...trimester. The bottom line: Avoid "The Unborn". It might have been much better if it takes place about nine months later so the baby can do more damage, but unfortunately, it doesn't get to do much as a mere fetus (other than making the mother sick). |

** NOTE: The more dots, the better it is. 12 dots indicates a masterpiece while no dots means it's a "disasterpiece." ** |
