Andrew Divoff returns as the evil djinn, and once again he grants wishes with nasty twists. Unfortunately, his performance isn't as good in this sequel as it is in the first Wishmaster movie. Before, the djinn could mingle with people just fine, but here he looks abnormal by constantly maintaining a stiff posture and an overtly evil expression on his face. If he had taken the Ted Bundy approach by appearing deceptively harmless, then it would be believable if he was tricking his victims left and right. Some of the granted wishes, like the defense attorney literally f***ing himself and an old lady pooping out coins, are pretty amusing, though some other attempts at horror fall flat, particularly when a casino manager is being attacked by a swarm of flying black rectangles (they're supposed to be bugs, but they look like they've been generated by an old Atari game). The heroine is not particularly likable, and before she faces the djinn, she undergoes some silly purification rituals by cutting her fingertip, wearing a white dress instead of leathery pants, and having her hair done up like a "good" girl, which is all rather pointless considering she doesn't need to do any of that in order to trick the djinn into ending this movie. The bottom line: "Wishmaster II: Evil Never Dies" is occasionally amusing, but the original is better. |

** NOTE: The more dots, the better it is. 12 dots indicates a masterpiece while no dots is roughly the equivalent of testicles being flattened with a sledgehammer.** |
