"Wishmaster" is one of many movies which adds cruel twists toward granted wishes (two others that immediately come to mind are "The Monkey's Paw" and one of the stories from 1972's "Tales from the Crypt"). The twists here are probably the most graphic, and the more bloodthristy horror fans might enjoy watching the decapitations, disembowelments, and the Ed Gein-ish practice of wearing the skin from victims. Also, a lot of veterans of the horror genre appear in this movie. The narrator at the beginning is none other than the Tall Man from "Phantasm", and Reggie Bannister--also from "Phantasm"--falls ill to a very nasty wish. Plus, Tony Todd--the Candyman himself--briefly plays a bouncer for Robert Englund's character. The star, Andrew Divoff, even appeared in some other horror flicks such as "Xtro III: Watch the Skies" and "Stephen King's Graveyard Shift". Divoff is very good as the evil djinn, and his performance overshadows just about everyone else in the movie. Despite all of its qualities, "Wishmaster" ranks only about average, primarily because of its predictablity and the fact that just about everything takes a back seat to the djinn. |

** NOTE: The more dots, the better it is. 12 dots indicates a masterpiece while no dots means it's a "disasterpiece." ** |
