Miles'parents are the strangest out of any of the FYI anchors' parents. They are 60's Activists who crashed Miles' prom dressed as sea-life (I think it was whales) to protest the serving of tuna at the party. We meet them in one episode ("Me Thinks My Parents Doth Protest Too Much") and Miles and his parents get thrown into jail.
He is still learning to be the boss in the first season or two, and having Murphy there didn't help much. His stress level is off the charts. He is slightly neurotic.
Miles often seems to be the victim of practical jokes. Miles had his retribution when he kidnapped Murphy's beloved "Meaty Boy" statue. She didn't believe him, so he decided to return the statue in the end. Before Murphy discovered the statue was returned, it was stolen again, for good this time (it is revealed at the end that Bill Clinton stole the statue).
Miles' office is the nicest office out of everyone from FYI. It has a kitchenette and a couch with fabric he picked out himself. His office has a big window, too.
Miles also showed off his reporting skills in an episode where he is stuck on the same island as a man with a big bomb. Miles has the exclusive interview. (He drives up to the plane with the man (and bomb) in it in a Jeep, while talking on the carphone with Murphy.)
He also interviews a man when the on-screen talent of FYI strike in Strike Two. He got scared, and during commercial breaks on the (LIVE) show, he'd drive across the street asking Murphy for advice...
For a while, Miles had a girlfriend, Audrey Cohen (Jane Leeves), who worked at the British embassy. The relationship was getting serious (they were planning to marry), but then she left him. (Jane left the series because of her role on "Frasier" as Daphne.)
In the seventh season of "Murphy" Miles and Corky finally got together. In the beginning of the eighth season, when Murphy announced that she and Peter were not getting married, Miles and Corky announced that they eloped.
At the end of the eighth season, Miles got promoted to a job in New York. The long-distance marriage did not work for Corky and Miles, and they separated in the tenth season.
Grant's last appearance in "Murphy Brown" was in the 200th episode ("Miles Away," the season finale for the eighth season). I personally thought (and wished) that Grant would make an appearance sometime in the final season, but that did not happen.
I'm considering re-working this whole format so it is
more biographical, like I would write for any actor. But I'm not sure. So this may change soon....
Keep an eye out!!
