"Tammy And The T-Rex2: In The Dark"
Slated for July 4th Release
Los Angeles --
Anxious Hollywood studio execs can now breath easier -- sort of.
Mirrormax Studios has finally announced the release date of it's much
anticipated 'Tammy and the
T-Rex' sequel, 'Tammy and the T-Rex2: In the Dark.' Many studios were delaying announcing the release of their
own summer fare until Mirrormax settled on a date, so that they could
schedule their movies around 'TR2,' rather than take the
chance of losing a head to head box office showdown with the much hyped
film.
Mirrormax has chosen to release 'TR2' over the long
July 4th
weekend. Said Michael Mann ('The Last of the Mohicans' and 'Miami Vice'): "Many of
the studios around town are actually miffed at Mirrormax." The
reason, he says, is because executives around town believe Mirrormax
knows that no one wants to challenge TR2. "So for Mirrormax
to schedule their film on the second busiest weekend in the summer,
instead of... say, the next weekend when there's less traffic, is
like getting spit in the eye by the winner of the big game."
Mann asserts
that Mirrormax
could easily rake in top box office receipts for weeks in a row by waiting a week
and letting other big budget summer films slug it out over the
4th. "Mirrormax
is just being greedy," he says. "Instead of letting the other studios
make their money on the 4th, they're saying 'We want it all.' "
Mirrormax claims no
ill intentions and scoffs at Mann's comments. "We're in the movie business," says
Mirrormax CEO Clive
Knickerbocker, "not a football
game."
- With all the studio in-fighting and bickering,
it's easy to forget that at the heart of the controversy is
the movie.

Tic-Tac?
-
- 'Tammy and the T-Rex2: In the
Dark,' brings Denise Richards back to
reprise the role she created in the original 'Tammy and the T-Rex.' While
the first 'Tammy' was basically a semi-humorous teen-sploitation film, Denise
promises a more adult, action-oriented film. "There's still going to be
humor," says Denise. "But there's also going to be plenty of
dramatic moments. The plot can be very intense."
-
- And there's also going to be plenty of Denise, say
Mirrormax
insiders, although much of the plot is shrouded in secrecy. Fortunately, say the
insiders, Denise will not be shrouded in secrecy.
"It rains a lot," says one anonymous Mirrormax executive. "Thank you, God!"
-
- As mentioned earlier, details about the plot
are sketchy,
but more than likely revolves around finding a body for Tammy's boyfriend's
brain, which
was left sitting in a
jar at the end of the original film.
-
- The cast has been briefed
specifically on what they can say and what they cannot say about the story of
TR2. "All I
can tell you about it," says Denise's co-star, Mel DiMarcos, "is that I'm
the guy that breaks the jar with the brain."
-
- Michael Jordan
quips that "You'll get to see a lot of me!" We hope so, Michael.
We hope so.
-
- The film stars Denise Richards as Tammy,
Michael Jordan as Tammy's left
breast, and Mel DiMarcos as "Freddy." It
opens over the July 4th weekend at theaters everywhere.
