Scott Caan, who plays Jesse James' buddy Cole Younger, had an initial advantage over his co-star. "My uncle has a ranch 30 miles outside of L.A., and I grew up going to rodeos with him and my pop (actor James Caan)", he says. Caan was also drawn to the film's toughness. "I don't mean this in a bad way, but a lot of actors today are just more girly than the actors I grew up respecting. Pacino, De Niro - there's nothing feminine about them. Today people are green-lighting movies that are a little more sensitive, which is cool, but we also need movies like this".
