"Hamburgers."

"Check."

"Hot dogs."

"Check."

"Chicken."

"Check."

"Doritos."

"Whoops."

Erin looked at Alyson. "Whadaya mean, whoops?" The two were standing in the supermarket, shopping for their Fourth of July food. Erin was shivering because the air conditioning was blowing full blast out of the vent above her.

Alyson shrugged. "We didn't get them yet."

"Oh. What about potato chips?"

"Eri, they're gonna be in the same aisle."

"Oh yeah. Let's go then," said Erin. She pushed the shopping cart down to aisle eight and stopped in front of the wall of snack foods. "What do we need?"

Alyson consulted the list. "You wanted Doritos, so get those."

Erin grabbed two bags of Doritos off the shelf and placed them in the cart. Then she grabbed a bag of Fritos for Dave.

"What else?"

"Um, Christian wanted pretzels. Better buy the big bag. Hey, that was alliteration!"

Erin gave Alyson a Look as she put the pretzels in the cart. "Gee, Alley, you're awesome."

"I know. Um, Trey wants sour cream and cheddar potato chips."

"Ruffles?" asked Erin. Alyson nodded, so she grabbed a bag. "Did you tell him yet?" she said, trying to be casual.

Alyson looked up sharply. "No. Why?"

"I was just wondering. You guys were talking to each other for a long time the day you told me, so I thought maybe you told him. But you didn't?"

Alyson shook her head. "I don't know how. And I'm starting to think it might be better for all of us if he doesn't know."

Erin looked down at that comment, but Alyson didn't catch her expression. Too bad Trey already knew--with Alyson's theory, they were all in for it.
