Madness...Tuesday, October 24th.Let me tell you how BUSY I've been the past month! It has been nothing but ridiculous. After completing most of the assignments and midterms that I have to prepare for, I had the onerous duty of planning all the recruitment events for my class as well as some events for the faculty. Let me reiterate to you again: had I known that graduating class president had so many responsibilities, I would have passed the job on to someone else! |
Have I told you how sleep deprived I've been lately? Well, it hasn't shown too much in my academic life but it has taken quite a toll on the spirit. White hairs are sprouting out like a bad habit! I've tried to keep the hair short to minimize its effect on my scalp but it still shows quite prominently. Oh well, so as long as its all there and all real-- no complaints. If you check out my pharmacy class webpage, you can see all the crap I've set up. It's been quite the character building experience. In other news, my folks as well as a few aunts & uncles are travelling to Spain and Portugal. They are leaving this weekend and won't be back for something like 3 weeks. It must be nice to be retired and jet-setting all over the world. Oh well-- my time will come when I make some $$$ and can AFFORD to do all that. In the mean time, I'll dream about my car that I'll be getting in the upcoming months... |
Long weekendSunday, October 29th.What a week this has been! Played two intramural sports on Wednesday-- ultimate frisbee and coed volleyball. Ultimate was good because it gave me a reason to leave research class early. I have to honestly say that the course is one of the weaker courses in the "new" program. In fact, I have to say it has been a big waste of time. Although I see that each course has a specific purpose in the "big picture" but the practicality behind it is all wrong. This course, if we are forced to take it, should be a second year course that should immediately be preceeded by the statistics course. That is the logical place to put it. Oh well-- I'm not on the cirriculum committee so that's not my call to make. Anyway, we won the ultimate game in good fashion. The other team has some good players but they didn't have any substitutes which is vital if you're not in 100% perfect physical shape. We had 2 lines going so we were fresh much of the game up until the last 15 minutes. I have to say I liked that team-- they weren't so killer-instinct like other teams we've played. What ever happened to playing a game for the spirit of things, not just to win?! Later that night we were supposed to play volleyball. Someone at the athletics office forgot to call everyone to say that the game was cancelled-- Toronto was hosting a women's CIAU basketball game. Well, a bunch of us showed up for nothing! I at least didn't waste too much time and went back to residence and did homework. I was slightly ticked off because I made a special trip back to the faculty to get a volleyball for us to practice with before the game... Thursday and Friday was much of the same. Go to school, eat, sleep, etc. Actually, I shouldn't say that. On Thursday, I went to the Mercedes dealership downtown to test drive the new C-class. Let me tell you that the car looks good. It drives really well-- I opened it up on the Don Valley Parkway and it was smooth. My only complaint is that you really have to put down the gas to get it to go. I liked the zig-zag shifter-- it is very much like the Acura shifter. The 168-hp for the C240 is not very powerful considering all the cash you have to put down to have the honour of driving such an esteemed car. The sales associate told me that I'm looking at C$51000 if I wanted the car to my specs. And I'll have to wait-- if I ordered it today, I'll have to wait until the first week of May for delivery. The demand on this car is so high that it's backordered. It'll be made in Germany in April and sent over right afterwards. Craziness! |
On Friday, I left health systems class a little early. My folks, two aunts and one uncle drove up from Windsor to go on a vacation with my aunt who lives up in North York. I took the subway uptown to my aunt's place and waited for the Windsor caravan to arrive. They were expected to arrive close to 11 but didn't make it until 12:30. I was afraid that traffic was really bad or they couldn't read my map. Getting to my aunt's house is a piece of cake but who knows if they could recognize the Toronto landscape. Anyway, they were late but they made it safe and sound. First thing we did was go for lunch. We went to this great place on Finch & Leslie. The place was packed-- and for good reason. The food was great and the serving size was fastastic. Food came right away and all the ingredients were fresh. (I'm drooling thinking about what I ate!) After a late lunch, we came back to the house. My folks freshened up before the trip to the airport. I drove the minivan over to the airport and dropped them off. Since it was really busy at the airport and traffic on the 401 was starting to pick up, I didn't stay and went back home. That evening, my floormates went out to a pub to celebrate Hallowe'en. I had work to do and made the most of the quiet time on my vacant floor. It lasted until 1:30 or so until they came back. By then I was wiped out from my long day and I was fast asleep ("was" is the operative word in the sentence!). At 3, some genius decides to pull the fire alarm. I was not amused by this. In protest, I decided to stay in my room and not go downstairs. The childness of this prank-- what a waste of the firemen's time and the inconvenience to all those who were sleeping (company included!). There was some technical problems afterwards-- the alarm went off an additional 3 times over 15 minutes before everything was figured out. (The firemen only came after the initial alarm.) Saturday, I spend outdoors. It was a glorious day-- albeit a cold one. I heard somewhere it was going to be a high of 9 C. It felt a little warmer but I walked in the sun. Watched the mens and womens pharmacy soccer teams play in the front campus. The women lost but the men won. In between games, I walked over to the Eaton Centre to do a little shopping. I bought a pair of khakis at the Gap. They were regularly priced at C$58 but I got them for the low, low price of C$19.99 plus taxes. I have an eye for a deal, don't I?! This evening, I spent indoors. Tried to do some readings as well as assignment work. However, I discovered that my computer was on and now doing a lot of internet surfing. I asked a friend to download the new songs to the upcoming U2 CD. It's out in Europe and thus MP3 copies of the song are readily available on Napster, etc. Going to sleep now. Good thing for me: I have Sunday and Monday free. Classes cancelled Monday so I have an extra day off to goof off! Yeah! |
