CRAZINESS!Monday, September 4th.It has been one hectic weekend for me. Family friends from New York City came in and we were in for a treat. The new entry into the Wong family went on his first road trip. Little Mitchell (actually he is HUGE-- size of a 2 yr old when he's only 17 months!) was shown off by the proud and very pregnant mom, Theresa. It was great seeing them-- it's been about a year since we last visited NYC. After their exhausting 14 hour drive, we went out for supper Friday night and then talked a bit afterwards. The six of them were tired and feeling a bit dirty-- so we showed them the facilities of the house and they got cleaned up for bed. (Thank goodness we have 3 full bathrooms in our house!) The rest of the weekend we tried to show them around our humble city. The "mall" (short for Devonshire Mall) was one of the highlights of their stay. They all bought shoes at the local Pegabo store. Guess they liked the fact that everything was on sale-- US currency goes a long way here. PLUS they get to reclaim all the GST they paid for while in Canada. They took off this morning around 9 but not without a hearty breakfast consisting of McDonald's hashbrowns and Tim Horton's coffee, bagels and donuts! (That's the cornerstone of any fine meal!) Afterwards, I had a chance to do a little packing and then call up my friend, Julia, who I haven't seen in YEARS! We decided to go out for lunch just to catch up on old times sake. Instead of eating at Jose's Noodle Factory, which was my original choice, I thought it would be cool if we went down to Erie Street for some authentic Italian cuisine. I had no idea that everything was closed for lunch but they were holding the annual bicycle race along Erie. Parking was a bit tricky but we stuck around. |
While I was there I ran into people who I haven't seen in a long time. Dario Sfalcin comes to mind. Again, I ran into Ceylo Lam-- this guy is EVERYWHERE. Got to chat and then Julia and I found a place to sit. We found ourselves at this place called Cafe Magenta. It looked nice from the outside (and there was a ton of people inside) so we settled there. It was purely a cafe-- no real food but the sausages a guy was BBQ'ing on the grill. Julia is a vegan so that was not an option to eat. We instead settled for cappuccino and latte. Bees were squarming around our table so we drank quickly and moved on. We found ourselves on walking a bit further east on Erie and saw a pizzeria on the corner. We sat there and ordered. It took a while for the food to come but the food was pretty good. Julia and I sat there for a couple of hours, just talking about ourselves and our respective situation. We also got caught up with common friends and what their situations were like. It was really cool talking to her again. Let me say that the years have been really kind to her. She looks just as good now as she did back in high school. WOW. You're probably wondering why she was back in town. She is back for a high school friend's wedding. I could go on forever telling this story but let me say it is complicated. I couldn't imagine this girl not having an arranged wedding but she found her man and married him! (She'll remain nameless for she has not told me about it as well as the fact she is really secretive-- write me and I'll tell you more about it!) In case you've forgotten, my e-mail address is soonger@geocities.com! And another thing: I'd love to write more but I leave for Toronto in a few hours. It's best that I get some sleep before the hectic drive down the 401!!! |
First week of school!Thursday, September 7th.I can't believe it's the first week of school! I've barely moved in yet I feel so pressured. Let me tell you that all the duties I have as class president doesn't help matters, either. So far, I have been quite anti-social with respect to school functions. Have yet to attend a Phrosh Week (pharmacy frosh week) event. I was thinking of going to tonight's Yuk Yuk's event. That should be cool. However, I don't have a ticket. I wonder if they can be purchased at the door. Perhaps I should stay in and do some readings for the therapeutics course tomorrow. It's based on cardiology-- I'm not very good with that subject matter. Plus I can stay in and go for a swim-- went to the athletic centre to discover how BLOATED I really am! |
As for this morning, I attended the first (of several) U of T Intramural sports meetings. The main reason for my attendance was to learn about the field trip to the University of Michigan! There is talk that we will tour the campus and as well, attend a Michigan-Northwestern football game! That would be brilliant! The trip is the end of the month-- hopefully I can somehow find time to go on the journey. This weekend, I have to sort things out with respect to my classes and as well, I should talk to my aunt up in North York. It would be rude if I didn't go visit while I still have free time. |
