Welcome to the reviews section of Hollywood Central (arguably, our most important section). Our aim is to review every major UK cinema release from now on. As well as several older movies which have recently come back into poularity through video releases or television premieres.

All the movies we review get a star rating out of five, which translate as follows:

  • 1 star - Pants. Avoid at all costs. (e.g. Down Periscope)
  • 2 stars - Poor. One or two almost redeeming moments. Not recommended. (e.g. Under Siege 2)
  • 3 stars - Thoroughly average. Alright if you're a fan of the genre/actor/director or just desperate. (e.g. Ransom)
  • 4 stars - Good. Worth seeing, though still with room for improvement. Maybe wait until the video release. (e.g. The Frighteners)
  • 5 stars - Superb. The creme-de-la-creme of filmular entertainment. Stop reading the review and go and see it. (e.g. Seven)

  • New Extreme Measures - Stars: Hugh Grant, Gene Hackman. Director: Michael Apted.
  • Fierce Creatures - Stars: John Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis. Directors: Robert Young & Fred Schepisi.
  • New The First Wives Club - Stars: Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton. Director: Hugh Wilson.
  • The Frighteners - Stars: Michael J. Fox, Trini Alvarado. Director: Peter Jackson.
  • Independence Day - Stars: Will Smith, Bill Pulman. Director: Roland Emmerich.
  • New Last Man Standing - Stars: Bruce Willis, Christopher Walker. Director: Walter Hill.
  • New Looking For Richard - Stars: Al Pacino, Kevin Spacey. Director: Al Pacino.
  • The Long Kiss Goodnight - Stars: Geena Davies, Sam Jackson. Director: Renny Harlin.
  • Nick Of Time - Stars: Johnny Depp, Christopher Walken. Director: John Badham.

  • Seven - Stars: Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman. Director: David Fincher.
  • Sleepers - Stars: Robert De Niro, Jason Patric. Director: Barry Levinson.
  • Star Trek: First Contact - Stars: Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner. Director: Jonathan Frakes.
  • That Thing You Do! - Stars: Tom Everett Scott, Liv Tyler. Director: Tom Hanks.
  • Toy Story - Voices of: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen. Animation: Disney.
  • Twelve Monkeys - Stars: Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt. Director: Terry Gilliam.
