June 99' Welcome to the June 1999 update. Info on Tarzan's Tree House. Also find out about the new paint in Toon Town!!!
Tarzan's Treehouse:
On Wednesday the 27th, (5/27/99) Disneyland Cast Members were able to take a sneak peak
at the all new Tarzan's Treehouse. Viewing models and sketches set up in the Festival
Arena, anticipation for this new attraction has seem to have grown. (I wish I were a castmember getting to see all this cool stuff LOL)
From a Tarzan information sheet handed out at the event: Guests climb the staircase
around a new (man-made) tree near the base of the Pirates Bridge and cross a
suspension bridge into the tree house.
They then learn how Tarzan came to be orphaned, raised by apes, and came in
contact with his own kind. Jane's sketches tell the story and provide hints for
interactive elements. Guests also encounter vicious leopard Sabor, kind-hearted
surrogate mother Kala, and even Tarzan and Jane.
Back on the ground, Guests come into Porter's camp (reminiscent of the film's
"Trashin' the Camp" scene) to get up close and personal with exotic animals, courtesy
of Circle D.
The sheet goes on to explain the new in-Park characters (Terk and Jane only-
Tarzan is absent from the list, because a man in a loincloth probably wouldn't be the
best character to have running around the Park), new food products (including Jungle
Crakers, pineapple skewers, Jungle Juice and more!). I think this new Tarzan thing may just be a hit.
Reanimating Toontown:
The Downtown Toontown paint job is nearly finished. (All I can say is YEA!!!) With the Toontown Cab Co.
(Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin) sporting a brighter coat of paint. As noted a while
back, the Toon Town Fire Department and all adjoining buildings are also freshly painted. Making Toon Town look as bright as it can be.
Unfortunately, it seems like the Gag Factory, Five and Dime, and other buildings near
the 'Hub' of Toontown (in front of the Toon Town City Hall) are not sceduled to be painted at
this time...
A little ways down the street, it seems like each of our favorite characters' homes will be
going down for short one or two day rehabs which *should* include a paint job.
AAA 'Officially' Open
The Tourism and Travel Service Kiosk, officially opened on 5/27/99 after a
dedication ceremony filled with Disney characters, an old-time tow truck, the
Disneyland Band, and tons of confetti. The kiosk offers the same benefits offered at
other AAA locations, and also allows new member to sign up on the spot. They will
even help you with travel plans- something that probably is a little late (seeing as how
most guests at Disneyland are already on their vacations!).
Toon Town is getting a paint job.
As many of you know the past few Weeks Mickey's ToonTown has been getting a paint job. So far they have repainted the "Fire Department." This is great news for everyone. For a long time Toon Town has needed this. Let's just hope they "Paint the whole town" and not just a few buildings. Let's tell Disneyland Way to go for doing this.
Hold on to your Hat's a Frontierland rehab is a comin:
For a long time we have all know that Frontierland would be getting a Big rehab. Well now it looks like it will be getting it. And bigger then we thought. With the Mark Twain down for rehab and the old Festival of Fools area open they could really do some stuff (to say the least). Now the next part is from DIG. Here it is...."Basically, from what has been gathered here, is that there is a plan
to close Tom Sawyer's Island this October. Then the eastern leg of
the Rivers of America would be pushed out into the area where
Cascade Peak and the southern edge of the Festival Arena is,
basically reversing the present curve of the River. The Island, which
is presently a figure eight, would then be widened and filled in where
the present riverbed is. The River would still be used for Columbia
and Twain cruises, as well as the Canoes occasionally.
And on this bigger Island there would be - their words, not mine a
big new E Ticket."
On the DIG website it went on to say they would use the rafts, even the Keel Boats (maybe) to get everyone over to the new ride on the island. I would love to see this happen. And it sounds like it will WDI has been thinking up this for over a year. Ya never know.
What is that music I hear???
It's Mickey and Minnie Mouse at the old
Carnation Plaza Gardens.
The food area of the old Carnation Plaza garden has been officially replaced
by a Mickey and Minnie meet and greet. Mickey is wearing his Silly Symphony outfit
and Minnie is wearing her normal outfit. They have also added new posters of the old Mickey
movies and some new things really set the mood of this new area. From what I have heard it looks great in this area. It is nice to see Disneyland put something new out.
Or are they just doing this to sell Pictures and to make a little more $$$??
