Time Gadget II:

Stranger In A Strange Land

Brianna walked down the boardwalk. It seemed like she was walking forever. She had been looking for a radio shack to replace what she thought were dead batteries in her "remote control". But she had been walking for a while now.
"Its here somewhere." She said. "I may not be new to the area but I saw one on the way to the apartment."
She stopped and looked around, trying to orient herself. She thought for a while. It suddenly hit her.
"Wasn't there a lot more stuff around here before?" She asked herself. The area indeed seemed a lot more sparse than when she went into the apartment. In fact the new Dairy Queen she had her ice cream at this afternoon was gone, replaced by a tasty freeze. It was still open.
Brianna walked up to the man at the counter.
"Excuse me sir do you know where the Radio shack is around here?" She asked.
"A what?" He asked. He looked at least 16 and had at least half that many zits on his face.
"Radio shack." Brianna said.
"What’s that? A dance club?" He asked, clearly mystified.
"It sells radios, batteries, electronic stuff." Brianna said.
"Oh no ma'am we don't have one of those around here." He said. "Are you new?"
"I guess so." She said. She was about to leave the ice cream place when she saw a calendar behind the boy.
"July 29, 1967?" She asked. She felt woozy and started to fall back, with the gadget still in her hand. She suddenly stopped falling back, it seemed like someone had caught her.
"Whoa, luv, easy there." A British sounding voice said.
She looked up. A concerned stranger, no taller than she was, was the one that caught her. She could see his face swirling around. In a flash it all went black. Her eyes closed.

The girls place

"Where’s our cabana boy with our desserts?" Chea asked. No one answered her. She sighed.
"Oh he better hurry back." Chea said. "Micky hates melted ice cream."
There was a pounding at the door.
"Who’s there?" Karen asked.
"Its me, Davy!" Davy said. "Open the door!"
"Must be heavy ice cream." Karen said as she headed for the door. The other guys came in through the back. Chea immediately brightened upon seeing Micky.
Karen opened the door. Davy came in carrying a short redhead.
"I didn't order Girl flavored ice cream." Micky moaned.
"I was at the tasty freeze." Davy said. "She passed out on me."
"Let me help you." Peter said lying the still comatose girl on the couch. Peter propped her head up with a pillow.
"I guess I have that effect on em. She didn’t even see me coming." Davy said.
"Breathe on me a sec." Micky said. Davy exhaled slightly. "You could use a Certs now and again there lady killa."
"I don't think it was me breath Micky." Davy protested. "She seemed so disorientated." He handed Chea something said. "And she was carrying THIS."
Chea gasped. "The second time device!"
"I knew we forgot something." Karen said. "I hid this at home. Apparently those weird FBI people didn't know about it."
"Its amazing. It was still there." Chea said.
"Then this would mean that this girl whoever she is moved into our place." Karen said
Davy looked at the girl. "I get the feeling she didn't come here voluntarily."
"No." Micky said. "I remember when we rigged the device to return, we also programmed a special code that would send it back here."
"A return code?" Karen asked.
"It was 12." Micky said. "Its possible that she thought it was an ordinary remote for a television and tried to use it in that fashion."
"Gee Micky you are so smart." Chea gushed.
Micky blushed. "I know." He said. They moved to kiss.
"Hold it Simba, go take a cold shower or something." Mike said. "What do we do with her?"
"We wait for her to wake up." Karen answered. "After all, how much trouble can she be?"

Far Away

A man and a woman worked silently in a basement not far from the house. It was Uncle Jessups old place.
The agents searched through the basement looking for something.
"I swore they had a second device." The man said. "But its not here."
"Is it possible they hid it?" The woman said.
"No, we would have found it by now." The man said.
"Kidnapping Mulder and Scully before they had a chance to get the other device was a bad move on our part."
"Yeah, but since we're both exact doubles for them we had to move before they found them." The woman said.
"True." The man said. An alarm sounded in his watch. "I got movement."
"Movement?" The woman asked.
"I set this..." He held up the original gadget. "...to detect when the other signal was in the area."
"Can you tell where it is?" She asked.
"It take a little time. The atmosphere in this basement is disturbing its sensors." He said.

The girls place

Brianna slowly came to on the couch. She sat up carefully, she still felt a little woozy from passing out. She looked around her. She was no longer in front of the ice cream stand. Someone had moved her. Had it been the English guy?
She stood up and looked around some more. Wherever she was had to have a back door. She stumbled over a rug and some shoes in the dark. She hadn’t been out for long, she realized, it was an hour away from sundown when she went out to the radio shack.

But there was no Radio shack! And there was the calendar at the ice cream place. The one that read 1967. That was among the last things she saw before she fainted. That and the British guy who saved her from clunking down on the pavement.

Brianna found the door to the beach. She fumbled a bit before she unlocked it. She opened it as quietly as she could. A metal click sounded through the house. She froze before she felt that no one had heard her. Brianna then eased the door open. She squeezed through a small crack then quietly closed it. She walked down the stairs off the deck and looked out. It was almost completely dark out. There was a red tint to the sky that showed the sun had almost had finished setting. She started to walk down the beach, feeling that it would lead her back to the boardwalk. The water crashing against the show gave a calming effect. It allowed her think about where she was.

She was in 1967, but how could she be? She didn’t feel like she had traveled in time, other than the fact that she witnesses a huge blast of light before her as she tried to find her fave movie on the TV. She was trying to use that creepy remote control at the time.
The remote? Was it really a remote? Or was it something else she grossly misused? After all it belonged to the women who vanished. Only they would know what it was.

She looked in her right hand, she knew she was clutching it as she fell. It was gone, though.
"Where did that go?" Brianna wondered. She turned back to the house. It had to still be there. "If the people who live in that house I was in are there, then I guess I have to find them." She quickly walked back to the house.

She wasn’t looking where she was stepping she stepped on a slippery fishing net that had washed up onto the shore. She fell sideways into the water. The waves started to come up faster and higher. High tide was coming in. She splashed around trying to find her footing even though she felt the waves pulling her out further from the shore.
"What a time to learn to swim!" She thought. She didn't know how to swim. She struggled to pull herself to the shore but she felt herself growing weaker and weaker from the effort.

She then saw a figure appear above her. He seemed so far above her. Only then she realized how far she was sinking down. He grabbed her arm with a mighty tug. She was pulled to the surface as the waves rolled over her face. She couldn’t see her savior but he seemed vaguely familiar.
The man put his arm around her waist, to give him extra leverage as he lifted her out of the surf. He carried her over the sudden drop that Brianna didn't know she was there. The man and Brianna dropped to their knees not far from the water. He took his time and caught his breath. She struggled to breathe. He gave her a hearty pat on the back and she spat up a mouthful of seawater and god knows what else.

"Now..." Davy said as Brianna rolled over onto her back. "How many times do I have to save you before I learn your name?"
Brianna coughed up more seawater in response.
