It was minutes after Davys brave underwater rescue. Brianna had spent a couple of minutes coughing up seawater and dirt that she had swallowed. She felt sorry for Davy who had to watch. Not exactly the first impression you want to make on a guy but right at that moment she couldn’t help it. Davy took a comb from a secret pocket in his blazer. He was coming his hair as she tried to recover once more. He looked at her and sighed. He offered it to her. She shook her head. He pocketed the comb.
"She'll be ready to go in a few minutes. The others would kill me if they thought I lost another time traveler." Davy thought.
Brianna was soaked to the bone in her striped shirt. Only then she remembered she wasn't wearing a bra. Suddenly self-conscious about herself she crossed her dripping arms in front of her breasts. She had started to feel like the only contestant in a wet t-shirt contest. If Davy noticed this, he didnt say. What a gentleman, she thought as they sat on the beach.
"What’s your name, luv?" Davy asked.
That voice. "You caught me at the tasty freeze. I remember you now." Brianna said.
"I'm glad you finally do. I brought you to my friends house. The others went to a party, I stayed behind to check on you but you were gone." Davy said.
"I'm Brianna. Brianna Lewis." Brianna said extending her hand carefully. She didn’t want to be completely on display for him, even if he just saved her life.
"Davy Jones." Davy shook her hand. "You're freezing." He clutched her other hand and held them together under his. He rubbed them vigorously. "The ocean is so cold this time of night." He said. "Does this feel better?"
"Yes." Brianna said.
"Here." Davy said taking off his jacket.
"But won't you be cold?" She asked as he offered her the blue blazer.
"Nah, I'm from England. Its either cold or rainy over there most of the time. I adapt pretty quickly."
"Thank you." She said as she pulled it on. She was relieved he gave it too her. Now she was able to drop her arms. They were still sore from the swim.
"Come on. Let me introduce you to some of me buddies." Davy said. "They ought to be back in a few minutes."
Brianna smiled and nodded. He got up, then extended a hand to help her. She took his hand and slowly got up. Only then her legs screamed with pain.
"Ouchie!" She said as she felt her legs go limp.
"Whoa." Davy said. He bent over and swooped her into a grooms carry. The way a groom would carry his bride over the door threshold. "We oughta stop meeting like this." He said and looked into her eyes. She could detect something there. Almost like a new glow. But it somehow looked brighter, as it reflected the own glow in her eyes.
"He's such a nice guy. And he's saved my life at least once or twice today." Brianna thought as he carried her back.
The others had just arrived back at the girls place. Chea switched the lights on as they entered the apartment. Peter sat down at the couch and flipped through a magazine. Karen, Micky and Mike sat at the kitchen table.
"Oh that was a fun party." Micky said.
"Oh yeah." Mike said. "If I knew we were going to a Polka-a-thon I would have remembered my lederhosen."
Karen chuckled.
"The image of you in that get up is almost too much to bear." Micky joked.
The back door opened. Davy came in carrying Brianna.
"This is the second day you've carried a girl in here." Micky said. "Is this the start of a trend?"
"And don't say she followed you home either Davy. That excuse has never worked." Peter said from his spot.
"She went out wandering." Davy said. "She somehow ended up in the water. I saved her before she drowned."
Davy moved to the couch. Peter moved so Davy could lay her on the couch. Chea ran to a linen closet.
"I bet she would like a towel and some dry clothes." Chea said as she rustled some from the closet. She came back over and draped them on Brianna who clutched them gratefully. She attempted to sit up.
"Let me help you, 'luv." Davy said helping her steady herself as she sat.
"Hiii." She stuttered. "For sssssuccch a warrrm place, youuuuu got awfully cc-c-cc-cold water." She smiled.
The others looked at her. Brianna brought her towel closer to her.
"I suppose I owe you an explanation." She said as Karen brought her a cup of coffee. "Thanks." Brianna said as she warmed her hands around the cup.
"What’s your name soldier?" Micky said cocking an eye at her. "Name rank, address!"
"Brianna Lewis. No rank!" Brianna said fearfully. "1516 Desert Lane Apartment Two."
"The beginning would be a good place to start." Karen said glaring at Micky. She couldn’t be mad at him, he was just being him. "Where did you find this?" Karen held up the time gadget. She had stowed it in an end table. "And why were you in our apartment?"
"I was out apartment hunting." Brianna started. "1516 Desert Lane was the last one I was looking at." Brianna pointed to the gadget. "I wanted to watch the Poseidon adventure on tv. Its my favorite movie. I found that and thought it was some kind of wacky remote control so I turned it to channel twelve."
"12." Micky said. "The return code for the device."
"What?" Brianna asked. She shook her head. "Anyway I thought it was broken or needed batteries. I went looking for a Radio Shack. It wasn’t till I got to the tasty freeze that I noticed all the changes." Brianna looked at Davy. "I felt faint and passed out. Davy I think saved me, then he saved me again in the water." She smiled. "Thank you."
"When you pressed 12 do you remember what happened?" Mike asked.
"There was a flash of light." Brianna said. "I thought it might have been lightning."
"When we first used it, we thought it was the light bulb exploding." Karen said.
"But nothing happened after wards." Brianna said.
"This is a time gadget. There used to be a technical name for it but who remembers anymore?" Chea asked. "Anyhoo my late uncle invented it so he could live on television." Chea said. "We found the second he had made and we came here, to the world of the Monkees."
"I had a feeling one of you was a fan." Brianna said.
"Me." Chea said.
"And you're the Friends fan." Brianna said.
"How do you know?" Karen asked.
"Easy. All your stuff is still in the apartment." Brianna said. "The landlord left it there in the hopes you would come back and get it."
"Wow." Chea said.
"You still have some time on the lease. He was an ok guy. He was even gonna let me stay the night at your place so I can decided whether or not I wanted to take it or not. I haven’t decided, I'm not even there right now!"
"Its getting late." Mike said.
"We got a gig in the morning." Peter said as they moved to the door. Davy stayed at Briannas side.
"I'll be with you chaps in a second." He said not taking his eyes off of Brianna.
Mike and Micky looked at each other as Peter left. Chea and Karen stood up and yawned.
"Where will she sleep tonight?" Davy asked.
"We got a spare room. With a roll away bed." Chea said. "I can loan you some clothes. You look very small."
"Oh gee thanks." Brianna said with an edge to her voice.
"I didn't mean to insult you." Chea whimpered.
"I'm sorry." Brianna said standing up. Davy stood next to her. "I just had a weird day. I traveled in time, I still don't believe it. Course that changed when I almost died tonight. If Davy wasnt there I dont know...what would have happened."
She looked at Davy, he smiled at her.
"Let's get you out of those wet clothes." Chea said. She led her upstairs to change.
Karen looked at Davy.
"What now?" She asked him.
"I dunno, 'luv." Davy said. "I think we just wait to see what tomorrow brings us."
