Karen ran to the other house in her bare feet. She ran up the stairs to the door and opened it.
"Davy? Peter? Mike? Brianna?" she called. Mike came to the top of the stairs in his robe. He had just thrown it on. Even though she had seen him before with no shirt, it was sort still sort of startling.
"Wassup?" He asked sleepily.
"I'm gonna kill Chea for teaching him that saying." Karen grumbled.
"There's something wrong."
"Wrong?" Mike asked.
"Yeah." She said. "Where's Peter?"
"I dunno, he’s been vanishing a lot lately." Mike thought about it. Peter suddenly came in the front door.
"Oh hi guys." Peter said.
"We were just talking about you." Mike said.
"Oh, what about?" Peter asked taking off his coat.
"Well..." Mike started.
"It's not important right now." Karen interrupted. "Where's Davy and Brianna?"
"I thought I saw them walking an hour ago." Mike said.
The Beach
"Come on luv." Davy said standing in the water up to his ankles.
"I can't believed I agreed to this. Swimming lessons at this time in the morning." Brianna said.
Davy had come up with the idea of teaching her how to swim, or at least give her enough lessons to stay afloat. They both ran into Karen and Cheas place in search of a bathing suit. Miraculously they found one.
"Oh come on Bria." Davy said. "Its perfect, there's no one around but me and you."
"And sharks! Don't tell me the other girls haven't taught you about Jaws yet. There is no way I am ever getting back into that icky ocean." Brianna joked. "Bria?"
"Brianna seems so formal." Davy said. "You've never had a nickname in high school?" He took her hands and started to lead her out. She quietly followed, completely unaware.
"Well I had a friend who called me Bee." Brianna said. "But that was really due to a childhood hive accident. Not really worth talking about. Let's just say I never sat the same way the rest of that year."
"Why don’t I call you Bea then, not Bee. With an a." Davy offered.
"Ok." Brianna said. "Cause with Bria I was starting to feel like a piece of cheese."
"Oh come on luv, cheese is good for ya." Davy said. "We're here."
"We're where?" Brianna said. She looked down. "Oh my god." She freaked out a little . She let go of Davys hands threw her hands around his neck.
"Oh easy there, you might be cutting off me oxygen supply." Davy said.
Brianna loosened her grip but still left her arms around his neck.
"Davy?" She asked him arching an eyebrow.
"Well there was no other way to get you out here." Davy said.
"You re very sneaky."
"Thanks. I try. With three roommates you learn stuff." He said. "Now on with our lesson."
"I think I'm fine right here." Brianna said inclined to stay.
"As much fun that sounds to me, luv, I think we'll stick with the lessons right now." Davy smiled.
They both looked into each others eyes.
"We don't exactly have to hurry into those lessons do we?" Brianna asked.
"No." Davy said. "We don’t." He said as they both closed in for a kiss. A voice came from the shore.
"Davy! Brianna!"
Davy looked. He held on tightly to Brianna as she turned to see what he was looking.
"Is it me or do our pals have the worst timing?" Davy asked.
It was Karen on the beach. She looked around for a couple minutes then moved to go further down the beach.
"Should we go see what she wants. She looks worried." Brianna said.
"Sure." Davy said. They began their trek toward the shore. "We can pick up where we left of later."
"You do mean the swimming right?" Brianna asked still a little hesitant.
"Where ever you want." Davy said. "I'll start you at the pool next time, then we can work our way up to the big blue." Davy spotted Karen. "Karen!!"
Karen spun on her heels. She marched very quickly back to where they stood.
"Where have you guys been?" She asked the worry evident in her voice.
"Swimming." Davy said. "Night swimming."
"Is there something wrong?" Brianna asked.
Karen briefly filled in the duo of what happened at her place. "I can't prove it but its almost like a telepathic feeling, ya know. Like twins."
"What can we do?" Davy asked.
"I don't know." Karen said. "But this bad feeling something happened to Mick and Chea will not go away no matter how many times Mike tries..."
"Karen!" They turned at the sound of her name. Karen looked up.
"Karen!" Mike called, the Texans voice booming over the beach.
"What?" Karen asked as they made their way back to the back fo the house.
"You might want to take a look at this." Mike said. Karen looked at Mike and went inside. Davy and Brianna soon followed. They all stopped when they saw what Karen saw on the coffee table. The time gadget. Only no
Micky and Chea.
"Oh no." Brianna said. "Where are the others?"'
"I think that’s something we have to find out." Mike said. "And fast!"
Jonny and Bonny had taken Micky and Chea to the lower depths of the ship. Chea looked around while they were being so kindly escorted down there. They finally stopped at a room. Jonny pushed them both in. Chea
immediately knew the room. It was the same room "Jack" was handcuffed to a pipe after he was suspected of stealing a valuable necklace.
"This does not bode well for us." Micky moaned after seeing the look in her eyes. He knew what she was thinking.
Jonny handcuffed the two to the exact same pipe. Bonny sat back holding her device.
"That’s better." She said.
"What now?" Micky said. "Or is this the part where you tell us everything and leave us here."
"Very astute for a primate singer." Bonny smirked. "Ever since we saw you and your friend Karen use the time device we wanted it. We hung out around you guys, even doing that god awful singing contest. We had thought we would get the device from you when there was a lot of people around but no luck. Then we discovered the agents who wanted the devices for safe keeping. For good reason."
"Why do you want it?" Chea asked.
"Why? Cause its one of the most powerful things we had ever seen. With this..." She gestured with the device. "...we can rule both dimensions, reality and fantasy."
"Now that Mulder and Scully are out of the way, we have control over the remaining devices. That is until you sent yours back home." Jonny said. "That is our next stop."
"What about us?" Micky asked.
"Who knows, especially if your friends don’t come and save you in time."
Bonny said with a bone chilling laugh. "Let's just say you wont make it till that shrill Celine Dione song."
Chea sobbed.
"Oh come on now, you got to be in the movies. Suck it up." Bonny said coldly. They pushed the buttons on the device and vanished.
Micky immediately started to try and free himself.
"No offense hon but I don’t want to be Leo or Jack anymore." He said.
"None taken, my role isn’t looking so Rosy anymore." She sighed and tried to stop crying. "It could be worse. My fave movie could have been Gone With The Wind."
"Hmm." Micky said. "Would I have been Ashley or Rhett Butler?"
"They both ended up in the war. Ashley was drafted, Rhett went by choice." Chea said. Gone with the wind was Karens favorite movie. She had been encouraging Karen to do the movie with Mike if they ever got the device back. Mike would have made an interesting Rhett.
1967
Karen felt the same strange feeling but it was more of a compulsion. She looked straight ahead at the TV.
"Mike turn the TV on." She whispered.
"Why?" Mike drawled. He was at the kitchen table with Peter. Davy and Brianna were off drying off from their quick swim.
"Just do it." She said.
Mike walked over and turned the tv on. The scene was of a western, like Bonanza but it wasn't officially on yet.
"Since when is Bonanza on this early?" Peter asked checking the clock.
They got their answer. Two people stood in the middle of the road.
"Jonny and Bonny?" Karen and Mike said together.
Bonny looked at the screen. "We want the other device, Monkees." She said coldly. "Bring it in fifteen minutes or your friends will be getting a swimming lesson."
The TV abruptly shut off. The power had been cut.
"Its been like that all morning." Brianna said. "Bad storm knocked a lot of power out."
"What do we do Mike?" Karen said.
"What can we do? Give them the thing." Mike said resignedly.
The boat
Cheas thought kept wandering back to the inevitable. What if the guys didnt make it? What if they didn't know they were here?
"I gotta sing." Chea thought. "If not this thing is gonna drive me mad. She looked up at Micky who was stroking her hair. Even he couldn’t keep upbeat in a time like this.
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
The West
Mike and Karen had decided it would be best if only two go to meet Jonny and Bonny. Peter decide to keep watch if suddenly Chea and Micky returned, but both Mike and Karen knew it wasnt possible. They didn't know what Jonny and Bonny want with the device, but they were
dead set in getting it.
They met the two in the middle of the town. It felt like a classic showdown scene.
"You two aren’t gonna pull any fast ones are you?" Bonny asked.
"No." Karen assured her.
"I don't believe you." She said. "But that’s ok." She came closer. "Give it to me."
"How do we go get Chea and Micky?" Mike said holding back.
"You don't." Jonny said. "You don't even get to leave here."
Mike and Karen looked at each other shocked, but not really surprised.
"Oh well, I always wanted to be a country singer." He mused.
"This is how its gonna go." Bonny said. "You had over the device, we leave. You get friendly with the Cartwrights."
"Wrong." A voice said. Someone from behind cold cocked Bonny and she fell like so many ton of bricks. Jonny squeaked and threw his hands up to the quiet attacker.
"I give up!" He said. He almost wet his pants.
"This is where the good guys save the day." Dana Scully said tossing her hair from her face. She took the device from Jonny. Mike and Karen exhaled, suddenly realizing they had held their breath. Agent Mulder came from behind her.
"Thank god." Mike said.
"But how did you...." Karen said.
"We been watching this guys for a while." Mulder said. "They were bound to do something stupid. Luckily for us they did."
"Chea and Mickey, on the Titanic." Karen said.
"Right." Scully said. "We gotta save them."
The boat
Chea had just finished the song when the door swung open. Jonny and Bonny had closed it when they came in.
Scully and Mulder led the charge, followed by Mike and Karen.
"Oh man, I'm not gonna ask you how, but I'm damned glad to see you!" Micky said.
"Let's get you out of these cuffs." Scully said finding the key.
After they were freed from their cuffs, they grouped together and vanished just as a wave of freezing water came through the door.
Later...
Scully and Mulder had already left taking one device with them. But the other was left.
"We feel that no one else knows about this thing. You are free to use it as you wish." Scully said. "I think you guys have mastered it the most." She
said to Chea and Micky. "No more titanic huh?"
"Don't worry. I'm all Leo'd out." Micky promised.
After they left they went back to normal, well sort of.
"You haven’t decided whether to stay or go." Davy reminded Brianna.
"Now that we have the device for good, we don't have to." She said.
"How about that swimming lesson now Mr. Jones?"
"Gladly." Davy said leading her away.
Chea and Micky went with Davy and Brianna to the pool. Peter sat by the TV and Mike and Karen stood by the door.
"Wow, this was an amazing couple of days." He said.
"I know. Bad guys, movies, Davy and a girl...."
"Course that’s never really new." Mike reminded her.
"That’s true." Karen said. "What do we do now?"
"I don't know." Mike said. "We'll just figure it out tomorrow, after all, we do have time on our side now." He smiled.
"We sure do Mike. We sure do." Karen sighed.
