There was a weird energy in the air. Brianna felt it. Even before she went to bed that night she could feel it. It had the feel of something about to happen. Brianna thought that everyone could feel it, but if they did, no one ever said anything out loud or to her. She went to bed hesitantly, hoping she wasn’t about to miss something monumental.
An hour into sleeping she had an interesting dream. She was walking through a large field of cornstalks. They were incredibly high even though she knew that they would be higher than someone who was taller than 5'1. She looked down at herself. She seemed to be wearing a full length wedding gown, veil included. The veil seemed to be blocking her view of whatever was beyond the corn stalks. She trudged along a path for what seemed forever before the corn stalks seemed to part before her. She went through. The path had led her to someones wedding. Or, she thought, they way that she was dressed...her wedding. Not exactly what she would have hoped for, a wedding in a corn field, but at least it wasn’t the local justice of the peace like Greg had suggested on their first date.
There was a row of chairs leading to the alter. In the folding chairs there were people she immediately knew as the Monkees, and Chea and Karen. Peter was with a strange blonde woman. From what she could see through the veil Karen and Mike seemed to be married. Chea and Micky were married too, and pregnant. Not Chea, Micky. Davy was nowhere in sight. She heard music as she followed the rose covered path to the front. She recognized it as a Moody Blues song. She dearly loved it. "Nights in White satin."
"Nights in white satin...never reaching the end..."
Brianna reached the front after what seemed to be a very long walk. She could see the priest but it was very hard to make out who it was she going to marry. He didnt seem to be much taller than her. Could it be? The man turned to her as the song continued to play.
"For I love you...oohhhh I lovveee youuuu...."
Her veil was being lifted when she woke up. She looked up and Davy was sitting next to her. He was wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
"Hi." He said.
"Hi." She said starting to recover from the dream. "What time is it?"
"It's early. 5 am." Davy said. "I been up for awhile. I cant sleep so I decided to go for a walk. Would you like to join me?"
Brianna nodded and quickly got dressed after Davy left the room.
Brianna and Davy sat on the beach. He looked at her.
"What do you want to do tomorrow?" Davy asked her.
She thought for a bit. "I dunno." She said. "I don't even know if I'm staying here or going back." She looked at Davy. "Once Chea and Micky come back with the device, I'm gonna have to decide. Who knows when they might be back."
"I don't think Micky and Chea are the types to skip out on us permanently." Davy said.
"I know, but I still gotta think..."
"Don't think." Davy said. "Remember what I said the other day?"
"Enjoy myself." Brianna said recalling. "Be on vacation."
"Right and that’s what we should do." Davy said. "I have our plan for tomorrow right in hand."
"Really what is it?" She asked.
"Oh come on luv, you don't want to spoil the surprise."
"Okay." Brianna said, though now she was more than a little curious in what he might have planned for her.
Back on the ship
Micky stopped kissing Chea for a minute. "I just had a thought." He said as he pulled back.
"What?" Chea asked as they sat up as comfortably as they could in the bottom of the vintage car.
"This isn't romantic." Micky said. "I mean we're in one of the so called most romantic movies, outside of the ship sinking, in a long time. But there’s something wrong."
"What could be wrong?" Chea asked. "I thought it was the right time. There’s magic tingling in the air. I felt it, I thought you did too."
"It's the wrong kind of magic though. Movie magic." Micky draped his arm around her back. "Its not real magic, ya know?" He looked in her eyes. "Its not the kind of magic I want in the air when we are really together."
Chea looked at him. She blinked. She knew exactly what she meant. "Its just the wrong place."
"And since this boat is going down," Micky threw his hand around. "it's definitely the wrong time."
Chea nodded. "I know what you mean."
"Plus this car is giving me a cramp and a wedgie, if that’s at all possible." Micky said starting to move around. His legs barely moved at all. "My legs are asleep."
"Ohh good." Chea sighed. "I thought it was just me."
"Let's get out of this car. I can't believe these things were popular back then...now."
"They weren't designed like modern cars, for looks and comfort." Chea said as they got out of the car.
They stumbled out of the car, both taking very careful steps as they still were a bit handicapped.
"What now?" Micky asked.
"We ought to go to sleep." Chea said.
"It would be a good idea. All the time tripping sapped the energy out of us." Micky said as they left the cargo hold.
They went to their suite and opened the door. Chea and Micky were laughing.
"Remind me not to run up those main stairs ever again." Micky said panting. "There is a lot more than I thought." He turned the light on.
Chea looked into the room and gasped.
"What?" Micky asked. He turned from the wall, and got a glimpse of what she was looking at.
"It's about time you got here." The woman said.
"There were only so many places you could be." The man said. "We knew you would come back here."
"Agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder." Micky said. "They took the device last time."
"Well you got part of that right." The woman said taking off her disguise. The man followed suit.
Cheas and Mickys eyes almost popped out of their head.
"No, it can't be." He shook his head. "Not you."
"Jonny and Bonny!" Chea said. "The awful singers from the contest."
"Right." Bonny said. "The time device, we have been wanting it ever since you and your little friend went to his dimension. We have been waiting for the second device to come up again. We know you have it."
"Give it to us, and you won't get hurt." Jonny said.
"Okay." Micky said. "But there is a security code that we have to punch so you will be able to use it."
"Mick?" Chea asked quietly.
Micky looked at her in the eye, he punched "12". the return code for the device, she quickly realized. All he had to do was press the button.
"Okay here you go." He said turning. He gestured as if he meant to hand it over. Jonny went to take it.
In one quick move Micky quickly punched the last button on the device. The device vanished in a burst of light.
Jonny and Bonny quickly grabbed Micky and Chea. "That was a very stupid thing to do, and you seemed like such a smart guy too." Bonny said angrily. "Come with us."
Micky and Chea looked at each other sadly as the duo took them out of the suite.
Karen went to sleep fitfully. Something was bothering her. She sat up in her bed.
"Cheas in trouble." She said and got out of her bed.
