Chart Commentary

2002 is finally here... In this new year, things remain unchanged at the top of the chart as Ja Rule secures a third consecutive week at #1 with "Always On Time". Perhaps the biggest change this week is the chart layout. I tried to maintain the previous chart format so it remained familiar to everyone who vists this site, so the change is mostly visual (a change in colors and the inclusion of some graphical details). This will be the layout used throughout 2002, so I hope everyone likes it.

New top 10 entries... This week there are two new entries in the top 10 portion of the chart. Newcomer group Nickelback jumps five spots to #7 with "How You Remind Me", the current Billboard Hot 100 #1 single; and Alicia Keys inches up one spot to #10 with her second single, "A Woman's Worth". "Fallin'" was a huge hit for her last year and it finished at #5 in the 2001 year-end Top 40 countdown, but it looks as if "Worth" won't make the same impact this time around because the track is now stalling a bit. Still, it's a pretty decent hit for her.

Greatest gainer... This week, LeAnn Rimes' "Can't Fight The Moonlight" posts the largest increase in the top 40. The re-released track jumps from #34 to #25, almost matching its previous peak at #23 achieved during 2001. The track, originally from the Coyote Ugly soundtrack, is available on her latest album, "I Need You".

Hello there... New entries this week include "Ain't It Funny" by Jennifer Lopez featuring Ja Rule at #35, "In The End" by Linkin' Park at #36, "19-2000" by Gorillaz at #38 and finally, "Break Ya Neck" by Busta Rhymes at #39.

Coming up... Aaliyah- "More Than A Woman", Kylie Minogue- "Can't Get You Out Of My Head", Natalie Imbruglia- "Wrong Impression", Britney Spears- "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman", *N Sync- "Girlfriend" & Alanis Morisette- "Hands Clean".
