Chart Commentary

First #1 of 2002... Creed takes over the top spot this week with "My Sacrifice" and thus becomes the first track to climb to #1 in 2002. Ja Rule's "Always On Time" peaked at #1 in December of 2001 and stayed there into the new year, so technically it's a 2001 #1 hit. Anyway, Creed is the first rock act to reach the top since Train's "Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me)" reigned for one week in September of 2001. Other than that, you would have to go back to the summer of 2000, when matchbox twenty was #1 with "Bent" for two weeks.

Greatest gainer... This week's greatest gainer is The Calling's "Wherever You Will Go", which jumps five spots to #11 in its 6th week on the chart; while Five For Fighting's "Superman (It's Not Easy)" also posts big gains as it jumps seven spots to #15. Seems like rock is gaining popularity on this chart, huh?.

New entries... This week there are a ton of new high profile entries. The highest debut belongs to Ms. Brandy's new single "What About Us?", which enters at #25. This is the first single from her forthcoming third album "Full Moon". Brandy has traditionally performed well on this chart scoring #1 hits with "The Boy Is Mine" and "Have You Ever?" in 1998, so her new single should do well too.

Aussies invade... But eventhough Brandy scores the highest debut this week, three Australians follow behind closely. Kylie Minogue's international megahit "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" has finally been released in the US and thus enters at #28. She is followed by Natalie Imbruglia, who has an excellent new single out called "Wrong Impression" which debuts at #29. And finally, former Savage Garden singer, Darren Hayes, scores his first solo Top 40 hit with "Insatiable", which starts its chart life at #38.

Coming up... Aaliyah- "More Than A Woman", Sugar Ray- "Ours", Cher- "(This Is) A Song For The Lonely", Lenny Kravitz- "Stillness Of Heart", Mandy Moore- "Cry", Jay-Z- "Jigga That N***a", Usher- "U Don't Have To Call" & Alanis Morisette- "Hands Clean".
