Based out of Raleigh, NC, the Alexander Guards are
a group of men and women that strive to preserve the
history of the United States. The unit meets for fellowship and
the attempt to show the public a glimpse
of 1860 life. Most events entail period camping,
food preparation in the open air over a fire pit,
moderate military drilling to help in combat accuracy,
period dances and balls, and other priod activities.
The events are in no means a "male" only event. The overall
atmosphere is a family outing. There are activities for children and
women as well.
There are always musicians present and very often as the night wears on the
1st Kentucky will always sing the
Kentucky Battle Song.
Through all the fun, all the cutting up, all the presentation of
a 1860 soldier, the Alexander Guards strive to
present the honor of the time. Gentlemen all, the Kentuckians
always want the spectator to remember the diginity and
self sacrifice of the southern soldier
The 1st Kentucky came to the southern call early and fought for the glory
and left a valiant history....
