Quote of the Day:

"The most positive thing that comes out of all these rumours is that the press conceives me as a pretty eclectic guy. They're linking me with everyone from Pamela to Calista to Matt."
--Ben, on all the rumours stirred up about him.(Thanks to Anonymous!)

January 29th, 1999

  • This is a fairly old article I forgot to post. It's about Matt and Ben getting to work on their scripts. Read the article here.

  • Ben will soon be starring in a movie called "The Reindeer Games."

    January 26th, 1999

  • GOLDEN GLOBES: Here's a quick re-cap of all important Matt moments in the award show!:
  • Starting off, I'd like to say that Ben and Gwyneth seemed to be getting along really well at the Globes. In Gwyn's tearful acceptance speech for Best Actress, she thanked Ben Affleck, her "good friend." (They even gave each other a kiss on the cheek when she went up to the stage-very unlike Minnie and Matt's behaviour at last year's Oscars.)
  • Ben and Matt announced the winners and nominees for Best Screenplay (interestingly enough, Shakespeare in Love won for Best Screenplay!)
  • Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight both ran stories about the glitzy soiree...Matt, Ben and Robin Williams were all reunited again at the Miramax party where Robin pretended to be completely drunk.
  • In a short interview with Matt after the ceremony, Matt was busy signing autographs and said that's what he had been doing for most of the night anyway!
  • Saving Private Ryan won for Best Film (no surprise there. You've really got to see it to believe it.)
  • Those were, what I thought, the best Golden Globe memories. I will be back soon with some choice pics from Awards night. Now we've got the Oscars to look forward to around the middle of March.

    January 23rd, 1999

  • 'Anonymous' sends me an article saying that the choice among celeb fashion this year at the Golden Globes will be Armanni. Including of course Matt and Ben who will show up in Armanni tuxes. (Thanks to Julia for the reminder.)

  • The Rumours section has been updated, with another article about Ben and Gwyneth's breakup...

    January 22nd, 1999

  • 'Anonymous' and Nasim send this along:
Ben Affleck, Lauren Bacall, Matt Damon, Melanie Griffith, Holly Hunter, George Lucas, Kelly Preston and Charlize Theron will be presenters at Sunday's Golden Globe Awards. The Globes will be telecast live Sunday on NBC (tape-delayed on the West Coast) from the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
    Check your local listings!

  • Well in case you're in New York City some time, and you look glamourous and somehow get through the body guards out front, be sure to check out the club Moomba! It has been said that Matt frequents the place as well as others like Leo DiCaprio.

  • An article sent by 'Anonymous' that pretty sums up everything rumour on the Ben/Gwyneth breakup so far:
This Gwyneth Paltrow-Ben Affleck thing is getting complicated. One story on the wire says Ben split when he found out she'd fallen for Viggo Mortenson, her costar in "A Perfect Murder." But Star magazine is trumpeting that she left Ben to get ex-lover Brad Pitt back, despite that Brad is couples with Jennifer Aniston. Star quotes Gwyneth (supposedly) saying "Jennifer should watch out . . . I'm going to get him back." And Gwyneth says Ben's too interested in drinking beer and hanging out with pal Matt Damon. She (supposedly) says: "If I married Ben, I'd be marrying Matt as well." Whoa. We've heard of that kinda stuff. N-a-u-g-h-t-y.
(How ridiculous is this article anyway?)

  • MAG STAND: This is what Jane reports:
The latest issue of Movieline Magazine has a few interesting mentions. In a piece called, "Best of the Best," Matt was named "Best Nose" (with an accompanying photo, of course). Another small article (with another photo of Matt) remarks on the lack of chemistry between him and Gretchen Mol in Rounders. There's also a page on what female celebrities buy the men in their life. It says that Winona Ryder is rumored to have bought Matt some Armani threads. Then, there's a big feature on sexy movies that has a section about The Talented Mr. Ripley.

    January 16th, 1999

  • NEW PICS: You can see them now at More Pictures-Part XXI.
  • MAGAZINE STAND: Julia spots a pic of Matt from The Talented Mr. Ripley as well as a synopsis and a short article on Ben's new movie, Forces of Nature, in Entertainment Weekly's "Our Guide for '99" issue! (Jan. 22/29, 1999)

  • As well, Julia reports a contest happening right now at the Entertainment Asylum. You have to think up a name to call the ship in Matt's cartoon feature "Planet Ice." The prize is a thousand bucks.

  • Matt's up for Best Actor in the London Film Critic's Awards!

    January 12th, 1999
The YM pics will be up by this Friday! But right now, on with the news:

  • Reports say that Ben and Gwyneth have broken up! People Daily, Mr. Showbiz and Access Hollywood have all reported that it was an amicable breakup, happening sometime during New Year's and New Year's Eve. Thanks to Traf2000 and Nasim who fired off letters as soon as they'd heard :-)

  • 'Anonymous' sends along an article that includes Ben and Matt among the people arriving for the Tyson vs. Botha Celebrity Party happening at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on January 16th, from 6 to 9PM.

  • Another article states the All The Pretty Horses will be filmed in San Antonio and shooting is tentatively scheduled to start in March!

    January 9th, 1999

  • I've just scanned the pictures from the February '99 YM magazine, and they are forthcoming!

  • An article sent by "Anonymous" about how Matt and Ben spent New Year's:
FORGET Times Square. The headquarters for drunken revelry on New Year's Eve was at Dana Giachetto's downtown loft. Giachetto, the investment consultant to the stars who counts Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz among his client pals, threw a bash that isn't likely to be forgotten. "Good Will Hunting" cohorts Matt Damon and Ben Affleck certainly enjoyed themselves - the guys imbibed enough bubbly that they were having too much fun. Damon's date, Winona Ryder, pulled the hunky actor aside and scolded: "You are leaving now!" Before long, Affleck was leaning on younger brother, actor Casey Affleck. The morning after must have hurt.

  • Go on and vote for Matt Damon at React Magazine's online site! They're having their best Actor of the year award and Matt is behind Adam Sandler (can anyone believe this?) Thanks to Tommy for the link!

  • Some more info about Matt and Winona's date at Cafe Louis in Boston:
Also home for the holidays: Cambridge's Matt Damon and his girlfriend Winona Ryder were spotted on Newbury Street yesterday. The pair stopped into Cafe Louis for a late lunch. They split a mushroom pizza and salad.

    January 4th, 1999

  • Some new pictures are available now!

  • Now presenting a bunch of newsbites collected by Anonymous and Julia!:
  • Good Will Hunting is named Blockbuster's number one rental of 1998! (Oddly enough, the Big Boat movie didn't even make onto the top ten.)
  • In the Dec. 28 1998-Jan 3 1999 issue of React, there's a small picture of Ben and a few sentences about Dogma
  • Says Julia: "The newest Entertainment Weekly which features Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover has a nice big article on Gwyneth and SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE...They were even kind enought to put a VERY VERY NICE pict. of BEN in costume (head shot mainly), along w/ the other main cast members..there's also a small review of 'Shakespeare.'"
  • An article by Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith (Hollywood Hotline) entitled "Here's what the stars might do in 1999"...has a prediction: "Matt and Winona and Ben and Gwyneth will break up, but Ben and Matt will stay best buds."

  • Clip from the Boston Herald:
Yes, that was Cambridge homey Matt Damon and his gamine galpal, Winona Ryder, breaking bread in the late afternoon yesterday at chi-chi Cafe Louis. We assume Matt's home for the hols and didn't want to be outdone by his bud, Ben Affleck, who showed off his S.O., Gwyneth Paltrow, at Legal Sea Foods last week. After lunch, Nonie, wearing her big cuff jeans, spread a little green around upstairs at Louis, Boston. "She's always in here shopping when she's in town," said our spy. "She loves it here." Well, what's not to love?

    January 1st, 1999
