Annette Benning - (Carolyn Burnham, American Beauty)
WHAT A SUPRISE!! I bet you didn't see this one coming, especially since Ms. Benning was the only nominee for this award this year. But, whether there was only one nomination or one hunderd, she would still have won for her portrayal of the stressed and distressed Carolyn Burnham in what is, in my opinion, one of the best films in a long long time, American Beauty. Although I feel it was Kevin Spacey as her husband (for which he earned the "Mikey" victory and Oscar Nomination for Best Actor) who really made this film, it was Ms. Benning who added that essential ingrediant that made the movie truely great.
Benning plays Carolyn, the wife of the hopeless and helpless Lester. Throughout the movie she is trying to understand her husband as he goes through a dramatic metamorphesis right before her families eyes. Meanwhile, she is under a large amount of stress as her business is beginning to falter against the competition, so she begins to go through a sort of nervous breakdown. All of which is wonderfully played by the talented Annette Benning in one of her greatest performances.
Conratulations to Annette Benning, The 2000 Winner of the "Mikey" for Best Actress
